Default Well, that didn't last very long

Started a career in May 1940, in a VIIC from Wilhelmshaven.
For some reason BDU see fit to assign me to CG85.
That's a long old trek, but orders are orders.

On the way down I managed to expend most of my eels, for about 30,000 tons. Happy days
So I called in at Cadiz for resupply.

Then on my way to CG85, I find a large outbound convoy making 4 knots. A sitting duck.

3 night surface attacks and 20,000 tons later I have expended all my bow torpedoes (except for the external reserve) and decide to head for home.

Pretty happy with this career start. But you know that's not going to last, right?

Heading up the west coast of Scotland I run smack into the middle of a destroyer task force.

I order a crash dive. But it's too late. They already have a bead on me.

I finally get under and assess the damage.

There is a lot of flooding, but none of it major yet.

The flooding is the least of my worries though. The batteries are heavily damaged, down to 10% charge. Both electric motors are heavily damaged. Ahead flank only gives me 2 knots.

I have no way of avoiding the next 2 strings of charges that are dropped right on top of me.

Career start May 1st 1940.
Sunk May 29th 1940.

That's a new record for me.

Next time in that sort of weather I think I'll run submerged

Oh dear. I suppose it was bound to happen after all that success

Destroyers do have a nasty habit of charging out of the fog, guns blazing!

I've just managed to beat that. Starting a new career I plotted a course to leave Kiel and after about 600m ran into the side of a destroyer.
Hint: Never go higher than 8x speed when leaving port

Wow. Beaten by a considerable margin.

Q. How long did your war last Kaleun?
A. About 600 meters

Yeah it's quite embarrasing really, I normally check to make sure I'm not going to collide with anything on the way out of the harbour. I just got lazy. At least I can say we were the only crew during the war who swam back to port

Well, at least it was the destroyers that done you in. I lost a Uboat not long ago to a Brit fishing boat. High TC, flank speed -- got up for a cup of coffee and forgot to pause the simulation.

And there lay eight glorious patrols - indignantly scuttled by caffeine lust - in the depths west of the Hebrides.

Well I did throw my hat at him just before ordering the dive.
That's gotta count for something?

Vader's flagship was the Executor.
