Default crash to desktop

How come every time it seems I engage an enemy ship(before or after or when the torps hits) the game crashes to the desktop? Im running GWX 3.0 gold, game version 1.4, and vista

Try turning the "Particle Density" down.
I've got mine down to 12% with no ill effects.

Also try giving your grafik card and fans a good ekstra cleaning.

So much for the simple stuff.

Maybe, leave the side panel off the computer, and periodicaly feel for heat.
If that turns out to be a contributer, an external fan could help.

I've narrowed the Problem down to when the torpedo actually hits its target it crashes and deck gunning is fine so maybe a file is corrupted?

temp isnt a problem becuase its like 60 degrees here and the case isnt hot or any blocked airflows

What are your system specs?

You could be low on memory (1GB is okay but 2GB is recommended).

Graphics card is also a distinct possibility.

I think the low amount of ram i have(512mb) is part of the problem but the sometimes crashes occur in 1x speed while im torpedoing merchants. the other half of the time its when i ratchet it up 512x speed for long journeys

specs: Intel Celeron D 3.33ghz cpu, 512mb RAM, ATI radeon xpress 200 series(just updated driver yesterday)

I'm not sure about your graphics card but I'd certainly consider beffing up the RAM.

I think Ive solved it because i was runnning with vista so I went to the icons properties and put for compatibilty with window xp service pack2.

booted up games and sunk 2 large frieghter 10-20 mins apart and an armed trawler. let hope this solved it

edit: about the ram i do get some lag/choopines but i can live with it

Where are you located and what kind will your rig take?

Seriously, I've got a couple sticks out of my last rig that I have no use for. I think they're both 512Mb so that'd be 1G total. That computer was about 5-6 years old though when I took them out so they might not be compatible with a newer board.

But if you can use them and you're someplace I can mail them to without a gigantic hassle I'll be happy to send them your way. I just can't say exactly what kind they are right now because they're in my desk at work and I don't have the paperwork on the old machine on hand any more.
