Ok, I'm at the drop point, I've gone to the bridge and I'm looking through my binoculars (that's where i go, right?). Now what?

I think you have to move as close to the objective as possible, then itll pop up a message allowing you to deploy people in a raft. That usally ends up sunk

How long do you have to sit there? I'm less than 100 yards from the objective and I've been there on the bridge for close to an hour. I'm losing my window to transit out of this sub-trap under cover of darkness....

Make sure you are on the surface, not deck awash for example. That can prevent the raft being deployed.

Yes fully surfaced and you should get the message as soon as you enter the missions icons "zone".
The small raft won't sink if your at all stop, speed 0. Also at speed 0 you won't get the terrible grinding noise. If your playing with RSRDC you might get a message telling you not to deploy the raft for a few hours, if you ignore and deploy the raft too soon, the raft will explode. However, no matter what happens to the raft, your mission will be completed.

Rough seas must be the cause. We've got 35 mph winds and a pretty rough chop. We're coasting at 2 knots at this point, but I'm inshore of the drop off. I'll back out a little bit more, order a depth of 0 feet, and try to get exactly on the money.

As long as you're within 1000 to 1500 yards of the drop point, and less than 1 knot, you should get the icon to disembark your guests or cargo.
I usually hit the postpone button, and stop the boat completely. But you do want it rather calm, unless you want a good chuckle as the raft flounders around in the chop.

I t will be where your battlestations icon shows up, and the other little square ones show up. It starts out in the upper right corner of the screen, but you can move it where ever you like.

Hrm... No dice. Oh well, I decided to just send 20,000 tons of Japanese shipping to the ocean floor instead. Seemed like a better use of a multi-million dollar piece of military hardware (couldn't find an exact price on a Gato-class submarine, but I doubt they were cheap).

Yea, come to a complete stop 2000 yards or less off beach, if seas are rough, prob best to wait until they are not. From what I read, sometimes subs had to wait to deploy their coast watchers, troops, agents, supplies etc they dropped off due to the weather etc so just wait for best time if possible.
I am currently running in an S boat out of Brisbane in October 1942, last patrol my objective was to drop off a coast watcher in the Solomons then patrol the New Georgia Sound.I am running TMO with RSRD so waited four hours then the seas were too rough and a patrol boat came along, so I went away for a day, came back that night, waited then dropped him off when the weather had calmed down, then went on to attacking the fast moving Tokyo Express convoys at night.Tall order to fill in an old, slow S Boat. |
