[REQ] Bearing indicator in binoculars

I did a search for this cause I thought surely it had been addressed since this is something that SH3 had that im sure all found useful, as do I.
But the search turned nothing so here's my request for the fine and generous modders to look into.

It's the bearing indicator that now does not appear in the binocular view, but does in the UZO and periscope views. It's what is at the top, and as one swings his view around indcates what bearing he is looking to.
Is this possible to add to the binocular view?

anything is possible with SH5. So yes, it can be added. But that wouldn't be realistic. They didn't have hi-tech binoculars back then.

binocular view didn`t have bearing indicator, so the devs made a right choice by fixing this. Sadly its not saying much in UBI favor.

Oh I know that the real binoculars didnt have such a thing, but to me it fits in because of the limitaions that a computer simulation has in that you dont have the peripheral vision and ability to see out the corner of your eye even with binoculars held up to them. And can in that way have some sense of what direction you are looking in. But in SH's binocular view you have no such visual reference unless you look dead ahead and can see the bow's upper cable cutter.
Swing to one side and it's sorta hard to tell how far off center you have swung.
So something of this nature would help, even if it were to make the black background somewhat transparent. This would reatain realisim giving somewhat a simulated peripheral vision. IE: You could then see the sides of the conning tower through the black background, and thereby know about what direction you were looking.
Because you can when looking through a pair of binoculars still see objects and things around adjacent to you with your naked eyes.

That's true, but real captains did have peripheral vision and a sense of what was around them so knew at least in general which direction they were looking. Something that's not relayed to the user with just a black screen and OO in game.

Whether it's unrealistic or not is irrelevant.

When im using them and starting turnign around i have no idea what direction from the ship im looking.. which in itself is unrealistic.

Exactly, and thats why I though I'd put out the request. For I too seem to have the same lack of sense of where im looking. Which as I said is in itself unrealistic. The are just some things that though they may not be true to the real device, must be employed to compemsate for the limitations of a PC sim.
Thats what I always thought of this feature in SH3.

Besides there are so many other aspects of SH5 that breaks away from realisim that were not nessicary in this way, this is one that is.
Like this silly morale system that had me wanting to give my sound guy a virtual bust in the mouth for his insubordination and disobedience just because he didn't feel up to it.

I can usually get a good idea of where I'm looking just by listening to the engines. You guys are playing in stereo right?

In the real world I can hold my binos, look down at my compass and realize the direction Im facing. Cant do that in SH (or any other sim).

How about a variation of this? Rather than a full bearing readout just subtle indicators for every 45° for example.

Actually, just making the black background semi-transparent so I can see things around and below the OO. That would be more in keeping it real, sort of simulating the peripheral vision. Cause that way just as in real life, you'd look down with your eyes, with the binoculars still held to your eyes and see the deck, or to one side or the other and see the surounding objects, sides of the tower ect.

Or, just the bearing indicator but well it's just a request and a thought.
And it's just a nice thing to have, I can live without it and just hop on the UZO, but it's nice to quickly swing around and zoom in to where the WO just spotted something.

I cant say this often enough. I dont understand among many other things that things like this were removed in the first place. I can imagine that it actually takes more time removing stuff like this then to leave it in right?

Yes Oscar, I've read this more than a few times here and I wholeheartedly agree.
All they had to do, was do these fantastic and stunning graphics, the boat and it's interior as they did, and simply drop in the existing SH3 UI and keybard commands and even the crew mgmt system with a few tweaks to it and all would have been perfect and less work and time required cause they wouldnt have had to work up this new UI in the first place. which probably made up half the time consumed and could have launched it even earlier.
Now I still feel like a babysitter for the crew, and trying to grasp a whole new UI.
Now if after a few patches things still aint up to snuff, I'll get to installing some of these great mods the fellas are making, and I applaude them so much for their efforts. But for the momment I want to give the devs a chance, it's still very early and I'd like to give the mods a chance as well to workout any bugs they too may have that cant' be known yet.

I always use the sub itself as a bearing indicator, look in the rough direction, and then use the binoculars, and never have any trouble.

That said, it was fairly easy to take them out of SH3, so it should be fairly easy to put them back into SH5.

I usually just look at the TAI screen. Of course that isn't realistic either.
