![]() Coming back from the US East Coast on Patrol 20 with U-122 (well, actually no. 21 as we were assigned a new patrol no. When refuelling at U-461 on the way back) we bumped into a convoy west of the Rockalls. After having decimated it somewhat and expended all our torps we set course for La Rochelle. Just after having set course a Flower class was sighted in the East. We changed course to pass behind it. After a while I got curious as it obviously was lying still. It was marked on our map but I actually never could sight it. As we approached the position - still on our map - it could still not be seen. There was nothing there. Was it a ghost ship...?...... ![]() |

I believe that is a contact, not an actual ship. they stay on the map for quite some time.

It was a contact all right but it was reported as sighted internally. Also, If I remember correctly, contact reported by others usually do not come up with the symbols for course and observation areas when you mark them. |

Probably a true contact that sunk for some reason. If the seas were high these ships are known to have problems. Thus it makes sence especially after a convoy attack.
