Okay so a favorite mod of mine is the color filter mod for the observation periscope. This really helped when having to do submerged night attacks and is historically accurate, even better.Used to download it like normal, enable jsmge, get an overwrite message, no problems.
I unistalled and reinstalled SH 4 and mods a few weeks back, since then the scope filter will not overwrite the TMO 1.7 file for the obs scope, it sucks.Tried reinstalling the mod a few times. Anyone know what to do? I miss this mod, really could use it. |

You could always manually overwrite it in TMO if you plan on making it a permanent thing. That would be the quick way of solving it, if not the best.

First I would check the folder structure of the Mod.
Just had a quick look at mine (I too like the green obscope filter) It goes like this SH4/Mods/OPCFv1.2_green_TMO/Data/Menu/Skins/American/Gui/Layout/OBSPeriscope_Mask_1024.dds Pretty complicated path eh? If your path does not match this the filter will not show up. Also the filename need to match exactly (ie. OBSPeriscope_Mask_1024.dds) or again the filter will not show up. Have a look and let us know how you get on. |

You're the second one who has made a remark like that! Normally, mods loaded later would automatically overwrite earlier loaded mods, but in certain circumstances, it doesn't seem to be happening. Wonder if something has changed in JSGME.
Being an amateur astronomer, I know something about color filters, and have also studied its use in periscopes. In the real sub they had a filter wheel with multiple filters in it. Nobody just used one color. In practice there were suggestions on what would help and what wouldn't, with lots of weasel words. The method of using them was to switch different colors while observing a target to experimentally see which filters helped you see what you wanted. With the SH4 filter mod, you have the choice of what's selected or what's selected. You can't change colors and you can't remove the filter. That makes the filter mod next to useless for historical reality or visual augmentation purposes. The filter mod is a good enough idea but the game architecture won't let you switch or remove filters, making the mod a mere shadow of what it should be if it is to be useful.

yea, it would be great if could change colors in game, yet another thing the devs overlooked and modders have had to make up for. However, when this mod worked before I loved it.None of them are night vision, which makes me happy but they do help when you need to shoot with the scope at night.I have found all the colors work pretty well.Typically I use them from mid 42 on...use red mostly but the green is pretty nice as well.
Sergei whipped up color filters for the TBT a few weeks back and they are great.Historically accurate? eh prob not but i hate having to use autolock when its dark to aim with the TBT so compromise in the game is the color filter, not night vision at all but helps you find your target and aim the TBT as real skippers did. Sergri, thanks for the suggestion, ill check into it, hopefully can get things on track, i miss being able to shoot with the scope at night. |

i'm wondering why the mod doesn't use some dragable
tga's with different colors which just can be dragged over the periscope view, this shouldn't be too hard to do. |

Just occured to me, i wonder if its possible to get the redmask.tga from SH3 working in SH4. I know it's in the menu.ini someplace, at least it is in SH3 if i remember correctly. Get that working, and then texture edit the TGA to whatever filter color you want. It will however, effect the entire screen.

i just thought of adding some new dragable elements
like they did in gwx with the additional maps and charts. |

I bet that instead of ...
SH4/Mods/OPCFv1.2_green_TMO/Data/Menu/Skins/American/Gui/Layout/OBSPeriscope_Mask_1024.dds you have in the ini file for your obsscope ... SH4/Mods/OPCFv1.2_green_TMO/Data/Menu/Skins/American/Gui/Layout/Periscope_Mask_1024.dds This is a common mistake, and you must edit it to the top version. Check to see if you have the files in the folders indicated. ![]() |
