Default Multiplayer issues: sonobuoys = DSRVs and other oddities...

Hi, all! Long-time player of "Dangerous Waters" with a group of other enthusiasts, and recently, we started experiencing a very odd instance...

My friend, who's using the European version of DW published by Black Bean, in conjunction with LWAMI 3.09 hosted a game today, and for some reason, every time his P-3 would drop a buoy, it'd show as a DSRV on my screen. When I'd ask him what channel his buoys were on, I couldn't set my FFG sonar to those channels to pick up the buoy data. Anytime I tried to drop a buoy with my FFG-borne MH-60, I wouldn't see a buoy...and I wouldn't even see the DSRV his were showing as -- I'd see cargo ships in the spot where my buoys dropped!

In addition, I was seeing odd loadouts on my MH-60, including the "Bester ARS-34," "ARS-36," and "Avalon".

I just recently did a clean reinstall of the DW version from Strategy First from my CDs, patched it to v1.04, and then reinstalled LWAMI 3.09. I'm wondering if he's got a corrupted install, since we've seen the error "can't connect to game because of error" without any elaboration on a couple of occasions, too. I'm leaning toward asking him to do a reinstall, but I don't want him to have to unless that's the best course of action.

Any thoughts, all? I'd appreciate any assistance....or, if there are threads out there that could help me, I'd appreciate a nudge in the right direction.

Thanks, everybody...glad to see the DW community is still alive and well!

Objects spawning as something other than they are supposed to be is a symptom of playing with different databases. Make sure everyone you're connecting to is using the same database and do NOT ignore any error messages you receive in the MP lobby.

That's kinda what I figured, but are the stock databases different between the Black Bean version and the Strategy First version? All each of us has been running are the DW (respective versions, patched to 1.04) with LWAMI added on.

In short, should one of us invest in the other version to fix the issue, or is there an easier way to ensure we have the same databases without mucking anything up due to the different versions?

...did that make sense?

It makes sense. I'm gonna cue OneShot into this, he knows more about compatibility issues between regional versions than I do.

The databases should be the same.
Some Black Bean versions in europe were localized, most notably the french version and the german version.
So if your friend is using one of those versions, maybe thats where the problem is.
I think there is a procedure to make the localized versions compatibile with Lwami (Lwami uses of course english).

As goldorak correctly pointed out, depending on where you bought your BB version your game is localized to french, spanish or german ... this means the file extensions for the databases are different.

The first step would be to check the file extensions in the /Database folder. In the original english version they should all start with an "e" ... like .eod

A fix to get LwAmi running on a localized version is to change the file extensions in the lwami/database folder to the localized ones (at least I think that works ... ). As far as compability between the localized versions go (for example german vs. english) .. I don't know.

Thanks for the feedback, all! I'm running the North American version, and the person I sim with predominantly uses the UK English version put out by Black Bean. We'll double-check all the database files and make sure they all match up.

LWAMI 3.09 will run the same on both versions, correct? I just want to make sure that's not somehow contributing to our issues.

I appreciate the thorough, prompt answers!
