Several new things perhaps?

Since my last try was a complete failure i'd like to give it another shot
First of all i want to create a new u boat type which i saw in Brest,France It was a 2 manned (kinda desperate suicide u boat)
It's small and actually pretty easy built so it won't be very hard ( because there aren't many features)
Secondly i want to create more rooms in the u boat and improving some details and so on.

But i REALLY don't know what kind of software i should use for all this stuff
Can anyone help me here?
I also want to create somekind of online version which starts in 1939-1940-1941-1942-1943-1944-1945 whatever year u want is a server.
You can't make the game go faster and it's online so us people here can work together trying to change history !
I already thought this is actually pretty doable with some changes to the gameplay of course and several stuff has to be changed but i will take a closer look to it this summer because i have lots of time i will spend 2 months developing all these things starting with the new small u boat

I am open for many hints and tips in creating new stuff because i really don't know how to create them on the computer and which softwares i should use creating them.

I will already start making drawings of the small u boat and try to get a full drawing by hand which i can then put in a drawing program and then try to make it for ingame so i will need lots of help in using what programs.
I will do the hard work But i just need lots of advice of my fellow creators

I also start a poll.
If lots of people are interested i will really put all my efforts on creating these features.

I'd say your off to a very ambitious start but even the Wright brothers were ridiculed in their attempts to invent the airplane.

Your biggest hurdle will, of course, be lack of knowledge and skills in regards to the inner workings of the SH3 files and the necessary software to create modifications.

Be aware that many features in SH3 are hard-coded into the game engine and cannot be changed without illegally "hacking" the files.

As such, you will have to sacrifice an entire u-boat class to add this 2-man submersible. It was called the XXVII B 5, or Type 127, also nicknamed the Seehund (Seal, in english).

Uboat.net has a wealth of info on these midget subs and the others used by Germany during World War II. Here's a link to their section on midget subs, to get you started: uboat.net - Types - Midget Submarines

Currently, you'll have to choose one of these: either the II, VII, IX, or XXI class ...to make room for the Seehund. Perhaps you might even replace them all with the other midgets and convert SH3 into a midget-submarine warfare simulator.

It will take a long time (several months at least), lots of questions, and a great deal of study to accomplish your goals. Be dedicated and do not become discouraged, that is how you shall succeed!

You'll need to do 3D models that follow the way the models in Game are done.
Low poly, seperate parts.
You'll need to do the internal stuff as well for them.
Then the cfg file stuff.
As well as the Flotilla stuff.

Biggest problem?
They used external torps.
The Game only renders the torps when fired.

Fireing them is easy.
Makeing the external torps on the subs vanish is not as easy.
Unless you REALLY know how things work.

Default The intention is good

The intention is good but you should ask yourself some questions first:

Modding requires time and dedication, I do not say that you lack both but I believe the real purpose of modding is to accomplish something (a project - you have that now) to make people enjoy your creation.

A suicidal human playable sub is not appealing to me at all. Who in his right mind will want to drive that thing? It won't be possible to make a career that way, right?

If you want to do it just to get the hang of modding it is ok then but do not be disappointed if not many are interested in your mod at all.

Why do not you ask one of the "big teams" instead and join forces to accomplish something greater? Like joining the Grey Wolves i/e I know you do not have the "skills" right now but you can help them with minor things now and day by day learning new stuff and doing more complex things?

There are several modders that I believe will be glad to let you in their teams.

What I would love to see and play is a modded version of SH3 or SH4 with all the subs and surface ships from WWI, THAT will be cool.

Well now, I know of at least one die-hard SH3 fan and U-boat history buff that would be thrilled to play with midget subs like the Seehund. He goes by the name of mrwho in other places but you may have seen him around here by the name of "dogboat".

Mikhayl's mod of the two-man Italian Maiele might also place him in the midget sub fan group.

I find the idea of desperate missions, in a tiny sub, with almost no chance of survival to be exciting as well. Sounds sort of like SH3 as it is! When you think about it, the odds of survival weren't much worse than they were for more conventional u-boat crews (and this is so very true when you're playing GWX! ).

As for a WWI mod, that's already being worked on by USS Sea Tiger. I refer you to this stickied thread : First View SHIII FUR Koing und Kaiser

Despite the challenges ahead, Blue-Casket, I say to you...Good luck!

Yes it's the seehund, i forgot the name.
Well i do have lots of time now and i know it will be almost impossible but i sure want to make the boat itself already and the interior and stuff.
Then i have something to start with

I didn't know that many things were hard coded and therefor illegal.
But i will look closer into it after my last 2 exams at school.

Can someone perhaps give me a link to one of these who were mentioned earlier? I didn't know that i could help other guys

Uh but it is not the same, is it? I love GW3 and despite that the survival rate diminishes with time, at least you man a "real sub" with a full load of torpedoes, crew and AA, a midget sub with just 2 torpedoes, short range ( I believe) and a thin skin will be kinda coastal vessel where there is no room to hide.

Thankx, Graf. I was looking for that link and could not find it. Remember I saw it once when I joined subsim but didn't bookmarked the place.

And I concur with you, who knows maybe in the future this project will give him the skills to accomplish something bigger.

There are many modders working on projects right now, it is a shame you are not modding SH4 because Keltos and Peabody are working on a IJN Campaign with Japanese subs and all. If you want to learn about 3D I will say: Read and ask Mikhail, I did read his posts and then reverse enginered a surface ship and it worked. Peabody is also very friendly and will help you too.

Try to search the forum and see if somebody else is working on a similar project, the benefits of team work is that you learn a lot of stuff, make new friends, brain storm a lot and even when the opinions can be different at times, you learn to listen and to express your ideas clearly.

But no matter what you decide to do, I am sure in one way or another the whole community will be benefited if not by playing your mod, maybe you can show a new way to do things or solve some modding problems that nobody has been able to fix.

Impressive pictures there!
Well i will look for these people who were mentioned here!
That way i can get some experience in developing something.

I am sure with a decent strategy in mind and creating some easy and simple stuff first, i can make myself up to the top and create some nice vessels.

I don't know why some hate the small vessels, The schnelboats were small too and i think many were lost during the war too.
Perhaps I can make somekind of mod for vessels like the schnellboot mod.
With a career mode
for example: inteligence has found 2 small freighters on sea and you are there to intercept and destroy them (for instance)

Anyway small things first!
I will look for people which i can help and that way gain some experience

There is already a mod by Mikhayl for Schnellboote players, you should have a look and perhaps PM him for some detailed info/help.

You say your having difficulty finding SH4?

Where abouts do you reside?

Ok i also contacted the creator of the merchant's mod.
As a start i want to make the vessel i was on for 4 weeks.
The Dar Mlodziezy. a 3 master which made almost the entire crew sick on the first day with 8 beaufort !
I took my medicine too but like with the rest it almost didn't work !

This will be my first trick in creating something !

I will make slow progress until i am able to create something like the seehund and so on.

Try to buy it as online download, I am sure it will be cheaper and easier to find.

Search the forums carefully, you might be surprised what you find, sometimes the search engine doesn't work well on this site or maybe I am not using it the right way, but I can swear I have seen threads of how to create objects, altering specific files, etc.

I do use Silent 3ditor, it is the best modding program for SH3 & SH4 and the new version allows you to export/import 3d objects!
It opens most of the files to alter a sub, the rest can be modded using a simple txt editor.

Skwas made that program and it is the best modding tool I have ever seen.

To make or alter 3d models I use Maya but since design is not my forte I do not get involved into 3d too much. I have read that the guys use other 3d programs like 3dmax and some freeware.

For textures I use Gimp with the dds plugin, used Paint Shop Pro X but after I found and tried Gimp, I was sold to that program and it is 100% free.

Well, whatever you decide let us know and gives us some previews. You will be surprised how many people will give you an honest opinion about your work and ideas also if you face some problem.
