Can't find any recent threads on the subject .. so what are considered the best and/or essential mods for the vanilla game? (I'll work my way up to GWX3 later .. after I get my feet wet.)
Here's the specs on my rig if that makes any difference ... AMD Athlon 1.2 GHz processor w/1.5 gig RAM NVidia Quadro4 900 XGL 128mb Thanks in advance! |

I would test to see if GWX3 would run properly on you machine.
Remember that you can enable "light harbour traffic" in GWX3. You can always go back to vanilla if GWX is "too hard" or too demanding on you hardware. If it doesnt work good enough for you, maybe someone else has any tips on how to mod SHIII on older hardware. |

I have a similar machine and GWX works alright. It gets a bit choppy in harbours but it's not too bad anyway.
The difficulty isn't an issue either, especially if you start in 1939. It's quite forgiving back then, so you can get the hang of the game before things get too hot. By all means if you can download it, do so. If by any chance you'll find it too difficult you can always go back. I remember though, that I used a pretty good mod based on Real Uboat mod. The name eludes me.... Was it Improved U boat, or Ultimate Uboat? It was pretty old and when I used it last year it seemed that it was no longer developed but it had a lot of features that I later found in GWX. |

Staying with your original question....JSGME and SH3 Commander for starters.

Start with one of the super mods:
GWX NYGM War Ace 4.0 The rest is personal taste. Do you like eye candy? Different GUI? Sounds? U-boat skins? Extra ships? Check out the mods page and this thread: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=141242 It is a list of mods with links to their threads. It is a bit out of date though. It was stopped being updated when subsim added the downloads page but it is a good list of mods. Peruse them and try some that may look interesting. And like jimbuna said: SH3Commander and JSGME is a must. ![]()

I would just go for it and check out how you will eventually play. Try to install GWX 3.0, JSGME and SH3 Commander just to see if they work. If so, use SH3 to start at sea or add in the Lite Harbour mod to reduce traffic.
Hope it works and welcome aboard. ![]() BP |
