Default I feel sorry for Americans this Easter

...because in the UK we can watch the three new (and final) episodes of the greatest science fiction TV series ever to grace our screens - 'Red Dwarf'.

I know what I am doing this weekend. Watching what happens when the crew finally return to Earth.

One program that I always thought should have been made was an episode of Star Trek TNG where they encounter Starbug and its crew. The culture clash between the politically correct 'up their own arses' Enterprise crew and Rimmer and his cronies would have surely been priceless.

Ever seen the pilot episode for the canceled American Red Dwarf remake?

They butchered it worse than they butchered The Office.

I hadn't heard about it, Letum. Just taken a look, and I see what you mean. I think there are certain shows that are simply classics and as such cannot be reproduced.

Most of the time, there are too many cultural differences to attempt to remake shows that were successful on one side of the pond and try and make them work on the other side.

As about 90 percent of the US tv audience never saw the British version of The Office, the US version of the show is different and successful over here. I loved the British version though. Excellent.

As for 'red Dwarf', I only saw one episode and it was the most self indulgent, unfunny rubbish I ever saw. You can keep it.

Ya I'm a big Red Dwarf fan going way back, can't wait till the new episodes arrive in Canada. I'm glad they are finishing it, but I can't help wishing it was a full season not 3 episodes.

Yikes on the American version They seem to have completely missed the point that the story was about a bunch of guys (with no live girls for most of the series) lost in space and sexually frustrated. A female 'Cat' would have killed that aspect.

Ah. You probably saw something from the shameful 5th series.

It really is a great show.

Ill never forget the one where they are all walking with weapons drawn aboard a completely frozen space ship trying to figure out why the ship was just drifting abandoned...

anyway - the hole ship was frozen inside and there they go sneaking along, expecting some sort of ice monster or something...

all of the sudden Lister screams out! "Ahhhhhhhhhh" shattering the silence.

the group turns and looks at him in fright "what what what?!! whats the matter?!!?!

and he says "A big drop of ice water just fell off an ice sickle and went right down the crack of my ass!"

In all fairness, I probably didn't give it a fair shake by judging it on one episode.

It's in my top 5 Greatest TV series ever list. It's second only to Mystery Science Theatre IMO but that's just because I'm a Yank. Although the two shows are kindred spirits of a sort.

This leaves me all

The did butcher it ... no doubt but you'd get Terry Farrell (Jadzia Dax) all feline d up, if you're into that sort of thing. Plus there was Jane Leeves, a nice little bonus.

Thinking back on it, I think part of what did it in was the US version of Lister was casted all wrong, there is a lot to be said about an actor making a roll. And someone tall, and if cleaned up attractive to the opposite sex, doesn't really make a Dave. Plus he reminds me of the oldest sibling from Party of Five.

Now will Holly be coming near SDCC?
