Default Who WAS that masked man?

This seemed odd. It's June 1940 and I'm in AF7897 with my redoubtable Type II, not too far off the Shetland Islands, watching an approaching Granville freighter when two airplanes suddenly appear in my periscope, guns blazing. ALARM! I dive to 60 m. and wait for the bombs, but they don't come. About five minutes later, I hear explosions, my crew cheers, and the sunken ship icon appears on the map (but not credited to me).

So who were those guys? Surely the Germans weren't flying air patrols from Norway that far west, were they? But a German freighter wouldn't be anywhere near Scotland, either. Is there some bug that might have caused the Brits to attack a friendly ship?

We've been out here two weeks without a single target and now this. The crew are furious.

Yes they were German. They were probably at their range limit but, they were German.

Well, maybe they got bored of the Blitz or something. Really, we couldn't understand those flyboys if we tried.

Well there is a German bomber base in range
So would either have been JU88s or HE111s
No fighters anywhere near that range
