Is there a way to lower the submarine hit points,I survive a surface gun battle with an escort,in reality only one hit could destroy a sub, what file do i need to edit thanx in advance

Yes you can change the hit points for each submarine. Go to data\submarine\name of the sub you want to change and open the zone file. You will need and editor to do it tho. The hit point damage is listed under the collisionable objects portion item 32 on the Sargo for example. However by lowering HP damage to the ship you will make depth charges, bombs and everything else sink you faster too. BTW Opinion time here One shell will not directly sink a 1,500 ton 300 foot submarine by itself, it may lead to its ultimate demise depending on where it hit but by itself I dont think so.

neon deon is correct on your way will make everything sinking you too easy, try increasing the shell hit points so only the shells damage you more. i would start by upping it 50% and see how that feels.
as it stands in the stock game, compared to real life, you will get too much damage from depth charges as it is and its worse for touching bottom (not talking about running aground) so trying to set the sub on the bottom can easily destroy you. |

Thank you all for the answers,I will try RFB, now increasing the shell hit points that's a good idea

While 1 hiot would not sink a sub outright, it could very well turn it into a torpedo boat, and not a submarine any more (unless it only wants to go down and not surface

I am not a metallurgist, but....
I would suspect that the pressure hull of a submarine has got to be one of the hardest targets of all; the ultimate in "sloped armor". I would have to imagine that it would take a pretty large AP round to pierce a concave piece of metal designed to withstand huge outside pressure, while it is on the surface and not "under pressure". The DC, on the other hand, works by shockwave against a hull that is already under pressure, therefore I can easily understand how a pressure hull could be breached or cracked. The other bits of a submarine (mechanical gear, periscopes, vents, propeller shafts etc. allow for flooding at their points of ingress into the hull, so from that perspective I can easily envision flooding/damage from that. I have a hard time believing that a 20mm or 40mm round can penetrate a pressure hull. 8"? Sure. 5"? I guess. So here is my question; please explain the physics of penetrating a pressure hull with lower calibres. I do understand and appreciate the effects that 20mm fire on exposed crew on the bridge, so don't get me wrong. It's well documented, and I get it. Here is a good article on a sub that sank without the pressure hull being breached. http://members.lycos.co.uk/brisray/misc/mkclass2.htm
