Default GwX 3.0 problem installing please help

Every time I try to install GWX3 I get the setup tab at the bottom but nothing happens. I downloaded all the files 3 different times, thinking I may have messed it up. The last time they were downloaded using the torrent. I have them all in my fresh SH3 folder that has been updated to 1.4. I click on the GWX3 setup. A tab on the bottom shows the setup is "running" but nothing is going on. If i ctrl+alt+del and bring up the task manager I see GWX.exe and GWX.tmp "running". At first I thought maybe I didnt give them enough time but this last time I let them run for 8hrs and nothing happened.
I have plenty of HD space and gwx2.0 works perfect in another installation. Also another installation with just SH3 1.4 vanilla runs great as well
Just wondering if anyone has come across this or if they know of a way to fix it. Or can help me wher I may have screwed up. Please help!!

PS it is windows XP SP3

Do you have the 7 zip files beside the exe file? If not then your missing files.

IF you downloaded the DVD version one large exe files maybe its corrupted?

emaluzer I don't know what to say...

The only long shot idea is and I'm most likely wrong is your user level isn't admin?

I know your using XP but Admin's can block programs from installing....

Have you tried the combined installer? (One massive .exe) Maybe redownloading?

Default thanks....

The user level is correct, im the only user and I know it is admin. Just for kicks I installed gwx2.0 into another new install and it worked perfectly. It is just this gwx3 that is not working. Also my file version for GWX3.exe is 0.0.0.0? Is this correct?

Maybe I will download the single file installer. Unless there is something i am missing. Do I have to completely uninstall GWX2 from my other installs? that doesnt seem to make sense. Thanks for the suggestions

Other option is download the exe from another provider.

Other than that I can't help you.

Hi emaluzer,

Maybe it will help if you download the single-file .EXE version hosted at BtS. (Link can be found on the GWX 3.0 release thread... one file to DL instead of eight.)

Hang in there.

well, i spent all evening downloading the single file grouping. When I click it it did the same as my first post. The setup tab appears at the bottom, with nothing going on, On the task manager i see GWX3_Full.exe and GWX3_full.tmp but nothing happens after this.

Im going to try to remove all my temp files and see if it makes a difference.

PS do I have to uninstall gwx2 by chance? I really dont want to especially if gwx3 still wont work after that.

As scary as this may sound. Turn off your anti-virus when installing.

My Avast protection considers SH3 a virus. I had to turn off the resident protection feature to play.

I have dual boot and have SH3 \ GWX 3.0 on XP SP2

GWX 3 has to go on a clean patched to 1.4 install of SH3

NOT ON TOP OF ANYTHING ELSE

You can keep your GWX 2 install just make a fresh install for GWX 3

BUT your not even getting to the stage where you tell it where to install so doubt thats your problem

Try the Av as posted by Fire wall ^

Default Thanks to everyone.....im an idiot!!!

A thought occured to me I clicked on setup then checked my nvidia display properties. I clicked send all windows to display 2 (my main display and only display) and there it was!!!!!!! it seems it was opening just fine and doing what it was suppose to only it was doing it on a second display, one I never use or even set up. I just remembered my video card has dual screen capabilities but I never had anything open up on any display other than my main one!

Anyways, Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions and tried to help me. Now hopefully I am off to sink some ships!!!!
