One of my favorite tactics in SH3 for night or fog surface attacks in calm sea conditions was to approach from the 45 deg. forward angle of a convoy or target with deck's awash (set depth 7m). I have yet to try it with SH4. With these honkin' big silhouettes the fleet boats need that.
Does it work? From looking at the interface it looks like it is a little more difficult to set very precise depths. Just a thought - like I said, I haven't tried it yet.

Sure you can run decks awash. If you go to around 35 ft, you can still use radar, yet be hidden except for the mast sticking up.
