Default The invasion of Norway in SH3+GWX2.1

It's April 4th 1940 in my current career and I'm about to set out again. I know that the invasion of Denmark and Norway starts on or around the 9th of April and I'm wondering if there's anything to see if I cruise up there and wait around for a few days?

Any particular places I should look? Grid references would be great.
That is assuming the events take place in SH3/GWX.

Many thanks in advance.

That's awesome, thanks!
Would you happen to know if U-boats were operating anywhere around there historically?
Im not sure what their level of involvement was in this operation, my only knowedge comes from scattered sources like Wikipedia with quotes like this:

Quote:
Torpedoes would often run at an improper depth, detonate prematurely, or simply fail to explode. This was most evident in Operation Weserübung, the invasion of Norway, where various skilled Captains failed to inflict damage on British transports and warships because of faulty torpedoes.
I'm really looking forward to this.

I like the invasion of Norway. Last time I was west of norway patroling north to south and backwards. You can literally FEEL, that somethings is going to happen even if you don't know about the operation itself. Incoming enemy and friendly task forces makes you think that soon the hell will rise along whole costline of Norway.

The tension is very high, the way I like it

Forgot to mention that all kind of U-boats arrive to participate in action too!

If you are lucky you may witness a destroyer battle in the Narvik area

In RL the U-boats had bad luck during Weserübung. So many missed opportunities.

I've just remembered....there's a single player mission 'Battle of Narvik' which includes the Warspite for GWX2.1 on my FF page

If you try the GWX Mission Orders Mod you'll receive radio orders telling you where to go to be part of the action.

More details are below my sig.

Encountered the Nelson in the fjord leading to Narvik.
Or maybe it was the Rodney. Its paint didn't seem to match that of either of them as shown in the recognition manual, but the structure seemed identical.

I fired four eels into her starboard side as the opening salvo, but scored only two hits.

I'm sure you can imagine the response from her escort.

Spent two+ hours being depth charged and pinged before finally shaking them by creeping acoss to the other side of the fjord at 130 meters with constant course changes. The Escorts finally gave up and proceeded on to Narvik (where they got their asses kicked) and I surfaced to find the immobile Nelson still chilling out where I initially hit her. I gave her one more torp from my stern, reloaded my front tubes and gave her two more from those. She finally went down.

I was pretty much a exhausted, nervous wreck after that fight, so I crept straight back to Wilhelmshaven. I only had one bow and one stern torp left anyway.

Not a bad haul though - my first Capital ship!

I participated in Norway invasion only once, without any sucess. The weather was bad all the time and I had a hard time finding targets. Only ships I encountered was a few armed trawlers, and a task group of 4-5 destroyers going at high speed. I didn't score any hits, and returned to base frustrated.

It seems that I was always in the wrong place at the wrong time. I didn't have Wreford-Brown's excellent Mission orders mod instaled at the time. I do now, and will probably try going there again.

Congrats Annatar, you sunk the Warspite
The Nelson class stands in for the Warspite in this case.

Correct me if I´m wrong, Jim:hmm:

You are correct sir....but you can install the Warspite and script it into your installation like I have if you wish.

Why does a Nelson class stand in for the Warspite and not a Revenge class? They seem a much more logical choice (To me, at least)

I should imagine the game developers are the only people who can answer that question :hmm:
