Default Overuse of TC considered harmful....

Rats! I just lost 4 hours of gameplay because of impatience. The mission? Infiltrate Manila and photo recon some carriers there (heh, photo recon. Does it count if I have the boys paint cameras on the noses of the torpedos). So, I'm on my way in, suddenly, the destroyer in the entrance finds me, he's pinging. He's a bearing 150, so hard to port and up scope. The turn was so slow, I see the spotlight on my scope, Open the tube. Almost there, it's bow on at 400 yards. Taking the shot, splash by the periscope! Down scope, hard starboard. BOOM! Enemy Destroyed. Excellent.

There's another destroyer closing on the position, very fast. Only 100 feet of water, so no thermals.... Well, I'll try to just run quiet and sneak past. Ok, he's circling over there. Circling. Still circling. Gah, 40 minutes to reach my objective. Let's TC it up to 8... CRASH! Noo!, he found me!

So, I spent an hour on the bottom (fortunately it was only 100 feet of water) and he spent that hour DCing me (fortunately he apparently sucks as a DD) before I pump all the water out of my After torpedo room. I come up to periscope, line up on him while he crosses my bow, and put a torpedo right under his Number 1 turret. Last I saw him, he was limping off at 4 knots.

With the water gone, the DC teams started working on repairing everything, only to find that.... my Rudder transmission and Dive Plane transmission in the after compartment is completely destroyed. I've had to restart from my save in port.... sad times.

My favorite TC death is running aground on a shoal out in the middle of nowhere

Oh and on the photo mission, make sure you take the photos before you destroy the ships... otherwise theres nothing to photo :rotfl:

I'm kinda hoping there's more there than just a single carrier, that way I can torpedo the first one and take a picture of it burning, just to see if they'll accept that....

The catch is that you have to be able to 'lock' the target to photo it. If it is considered by the game as 'sunk' you cant lock it. Although at times it takes a few minutes from the time it is set ablaze till it is considered sunk. So good luck.

I'm running NSM, so things seem to take at least a few minutes to sink. However, for extra drama, I'll try to time the picture with the torpedo impact....

My best/worst TC death was when I had my laptop set up next to my desktop (was playing SHIV on my destop at high TC) and I went to log to my Laptop but used my desktop keyboard by mistake. Lets just say my login contained the letter "d" puting me on a dive to crush depth before I even knew what happened. And just like that I was dead...
