Default Legion's Noob Guide question

Ok, first of all. Major props to Legion. I've watched that guide 3 times now, and it is what netted me my first successful intentional contact (Ramming a DD on the surface at night during bad weather hardly counts as intentional.... But at least he didn't see me either ). But I have a question.

In his guide, when he zooms in on his sub on the Navigational map, an MoBo appears around his submarine! Now, I'm not one to get jealous easy, but I can definitely feel it rising after seeing that! Why don't I have that? I opened the "Map tool aid" (Thanks, Legion once again, as I never realized what the heck that thing was for until I saw your guide. I'd click it and nothing would happen, "Huh, that's pointless.") and zoomed in, but to no avail. Is it a mod? Did I not zoom in enough and if I didn't, how far do I have to zoom in? Right now, I'm running plain vanilla SHIV 1.4. Certainly would have been helpful during my contact, as I could have plotted their courses and seen if my guess about the lead escorts path really took it as close as I feared it did far more easily (my estimates put him at <200 yards at his closest approach, which really threw off my position).

Also, he was able to measure off far shorter ranges than I could in nautical miles. In fact, I'll have to watch more closely this time, but it seems like it would jump from 4000 yards to 4.6 nm. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a nm approximately 2000 yards? I told myself I was just not reading it right, but I'd really like it if it'd just measure all nm, including decimals. (0.5 nm instead of 1000 yards). Especially if I've got a MoBo to handle the yards.
