Are you running RSRD or the stock campaign?

Well, no wonder
The Historical Battles in the stock campaign are extremely buggy, sometimes they might appear, most of the times they just don't work Get RSRD, it should fix those problems

If you want to see where the 'stock' missions are suppose to be just use Mission Editor (it's in you main SH4 folder) and open Campaigns/Campaign/Battleof Midway.mis and it will show you the mission the game should use. In the Mission/Parameters menu is the date and time they leave the location you see them on the map. But they have a long way to go and are going at 20knots (in the Midway mission, others could be different speeds). I have never tested it to see when they actually get there. In fact they could run into some of the random generated traffic and not get there at all. The other missions the game uses are also in there. If it doesn't have a Battle title for it and it shows as 42a_somename then it is just random traffic used in the game. But don't make any changes or save anything unless you have a backup. You could mess up the whole game. There is a file that loads these mission by name, and at certain dates so changes could cause problems unless you are trying a MOD. Just make sure you have a backup of the folder. Peabody

While not directly answering his question I stumbled accross this the other day
SH4 'replacement map' http://www.replacementdocs.com/download.php?view.4902 It beats the heck out of the map that came with my (early release) version of the map. It actually has traffic lanes and other points of interest mapped on it. Enjoy ! ![]() |

Over at UBI forums "Dgrayson" (Dave) posted a couple of nice "Battle of Midway" maps and the action will spawn in the stock game if you are not too close (within spawning distance)... Get on their projected track.
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/t...646#1871054646 Now I do like the RSRD campaign and they worked very hard to create it however it is scripted. I want to make it clear that I am very happy the Dev's made SH4's campaign dynamic - not scripted. Also, that there is the option to run a scripted campaign like RSRD if people choose. Happy Hunting! Art PS: I hope I didn't offend anyone. I have a 'gift' for sometimes doing that by mistake when I really do have good intentions... lol ----------------------------- PPS: Here's another one from Dec 7, 2007 with many screen shots of "Masterhawk405" encountering the Battle of Midway: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/t...5/m/3021073516 Last edited by aanker; 09-17-08 at 07:41 PM. |

What I mean is you can sit in front of a port and destroy every single Tanker that tries to enter. In a dynamic campaign that would mean that ships could not sail, because they have no fuel. In SH4 they will come and go, like nothing ever happened. That is scripted into the game and won't change no matter what you do. You may prefer the random element, and that is ok. But it is not dynamic because nothing you do changes any spawning of ships of quantity of ships. Even if you sink an entire convoy, they were going to disappear when they reached their destination anyway. So the challenge in the game is to the intercept and sinking. There is no element of "If I sink this resupply convoy, the US will gain an advantage in taking over the Solomons". Won't make a difference, there is another one scripted to come right behind it. And don't misread as meaning this as a complaint about the game. There is a choice to make. Either make it 'historical' (to a point) or make it dynamic where the outcome is yet to be determined. They chose to make it semi-historical and RSRD made it more accurate. Peabody

Excellent explanation, Thanks.
I'm an old SHCE guy and although the traffic was pretty heavy the shipping was never the same twice (random scripting?) and the correct Patrol Zones were active at the appropriate time. I could be wrong (again) but I think that's what Tater was trying to do with his ICL - which I liked too. Anyway I hope the OP can find the "Battle of Midway" now whichever campaign he chooses. Happy Hunting! Art |

It has been years since I read Prange's Miracle at Midway but if I remember correctly there was one American sub that got off shots against the Kaga after it was already dead in the water (all duds) and another that at least attempted attacks on Japanese cruisers. Then there was the IJN sub that attacked the Yorktown....but that, pretty much, was about it for submarine involvement... inspite of the fact that there were reportedly quite a few boats operating on both sides in the battle area during the action peroid.

It was the Nautilus that torpedoed Kaga
Subs did a lot of damage during the Battle of the Philippine Sea though, the Albacore sank the Taihō (Which was the biggest IJN Fleet Carrier in the war) and Cavella sank the Shōkaku
