Default GWX 2.1 and SH3 Gen compatibility

I am going to install GWX 2.1 today together with SH3 Commander and I wonder if it is also possible to add SH3 Gen to this combination of mods or if there are problems if I add SH3 Gen.

I have installed SH3 Gen with those mods with no problems, plus a load of other mods.
I have found that if you follow orders like a good kaleun, this mod puts you in all sorts of exciting danger, a "must have" mod for hardened aces.

You should experience no problems (as explained in my earlier PM)

Like Commander and SH3 Weather, SH3 Gen is an external tool that looks at the game and generates information, nothing else. It is completely harmless and doesn't affect the game at all.

As far as I know.

SH3 Gen is short for "SH3 Patrol data Generator".

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=88438

It's a small external program that generates some intelligence information (locations of vessels, convoys, land objects, etc.) based on a savegame. (So has nothing to do with modifing files as JSGME does) It gives you this in text form (in a window of Sh3gen, not sh3 itself), but it can also add those locations on you map using drawing tools. (I wouldn't say completely harmless, but the file modified does seem of secondary importance: .map, it's the collection of your lines/circles/waypoints/etc. ) Since the latest versions it can also generate a map-file that can be viewed using and external viewer application for geographical datasets in GIS format (Tatukgis, free but needs registration). It can give more allegiance information than the sh3 map and has some measuring tools, but it's not required for SH3.

Unfortunately the creator's website has been screwed up by hackers or virus so the explanation of what it does/screenshots is gone. (until he finds time to repair his website) Which is a shame as he did a very good job at that.

Sh3 Weather. I'm not sure but this looks as if it is it:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=130112

Sh3 weather settings in campaigns seem to have prefference for making storms/bad weather. This mod fixes those settings to minimise them. But I understand it is already incorporated in GWX 2(.1) so you may nod need it. Don't know what the "Sh3 Weather Report" part does though. New to me.

I noticed I saved a page from the SH3Gen site to my harddrive. This is what is on the introduction page:

Quote:
Overview

Sh3Gen is an external patrol engine for Silent Hunter III. It is reading and analyzing the main application files, adds historic and geospatial data and writes back an updated patrol information into a savegame. The new information shows up on reload of the savegame, in the ingame map and wardiary.

If you follow my instructions about setting up the Tracking Room Station, you can view detailed strategic maps in a free GIS viewer.

Precisely, you will be given information about:

■ enemy ports - what kind of ships are there?

■ warships, big ships and convoys - where does HQ suspect them to be?

■ the overall situation - whats going on in the world in general?

■ single merchants - in which areas can you expect to find unprotected shipping?

■ position of airbases - you can deduct amount of airpower from this

In addition to the data that comes from SHIII, it adds layers of 'virtual' data, namely:

■ real, varying mission objectives

■ standing operational orders in effect during the patrol, specifically researched for the whole war

Sh3Gen is meant to be an athmosphere and gameplay enhancement, not a spysat mod. Therefore, any information will be given randomly and will often not be reliable. There are a multitude of options to adjust reliability and amount of information to your playing style, as well as options to switch off certain modules.

You will also be given real mission objectives, derived from patrol data, for the first time giving missions an interesting purpose, that is tightly integrated within the game world. There is no direct reward for fulfilling the objectives in terms of prestige points, other than what you make of it in your imagination, but I think it will reward you with much more interesting missions than vanilla SHIII.

The first time you use Sh3Gen please read my quickstart guide. The instructions might sound a bit complicated or daunting, but in fact it is very simple and logical, as you will notice if you have used it a few times.

Compatibility

Sh3Gen is designed to be fully compatible with all patches and mods for SHIII, and its data structures are open for community mods. Using Sh3Gen is safe, as the only files affected are the ones from the specified savegame.

Since its release, the concept has proven to be working, the program is stable and flexible. There are a lot of possibilities for new features, and I plan to carefully expand the application, as my time permits.

The great thing is that, while people are working on sophisticated new campaign files, we can now use Sh3Gen together with their mods to have an enhanced Sh3 experience.

Requirements

You must have Microsoft DotNET Framework installed to run this software.

You can download and install DotNET Framework from here.

Feedback

I am interested to hear about your experiences and suggestions, and I like to get into contact with people who want to help me improve Sh3Gen.

SH3 Weather is another external program. It can be tied in with SH3 Commander so it runs automatically. I'm not sure how it affects the weather overall, but what it does that I like is start before the game does with a screen that lets you set the starting weather - either manually

or with a month - specific setup that allows for some surprise.

So no more setting out on patrol in perfect weather every time.

Be warned though: The program that comes with GWX 2.1 is RealWeatherFix, which attempts to control the 'infinite storms' bug. There is evidence that the two are not compatible. I haven't had any problems so far, but then I also haven't run any full-length patrols. I'll keep using it until I do have a problem, and report on it; but that may be awhile, so use at your own risk.

Ok, then I had them mixed up. This program I have never seen. I was only aware of the RealWeatherFix. Do you have a link where I can download/get more information on it?

:rotfl:

Laughing at myself here, because I looked up the thread for you and found out I'm still using an older version!
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...hlight=weather

Note that the last and most recent post on the thread opines that GWX 2.1's weather model is better. I don't know - as I said, I haven't played an actual patrol in a couple of years. I just like that it lets me actually start a patrol in bad weather.

You can use SH3 Weather with the RealWeatherFix mod without fear of CTD's. In fact, I rather like the randomized weather at the start of the patrol which SH3 Weather gives you.

The only problem with using it with the RealWeatherFix is that in addition to changing the starting weather, it also randomly alters the CloudRand, PrecipRand, and FogRand factors, which have unanticipated effects on the RealWeatherFix. Finally, there is a bug in SH3 weather that always sets WeatherRandInterval = 11, resulting in longer delays between weather changes. However, I think you can get around this. After using SH3 Weather to randomize your starting weather, but before starting SH3, open up the three campaign files and change the WeatherRandInterval setting and the three Rand settings back to the RealWeatherFix settings (5 and 0, respectively). Voila, you are set to go and "Bob's your Uncle." (At least I think that's how you Brit's say it)! :p
