Default Another reason not to smoke...

Sailing by the tip of the Hebrides, I came across a nice unescorted Empire Freighter: 1 magnetic right under the hull and she started listing: wanted to make sure, so surfaced and risked the deck gun: went well, as the gun she had was on the stern, unable to bring it to bare. 12 shells in the waterline and down she goes: time to make a quick exit...

3 mins later, the swordfish start coming over....I wasted 60 flak shells trying to shoot down what turned out to be a speck of cigarette ash on my monitor....me a muppet.....

You know, if you let your highly-trained professional gunners do their jobs, they wouldn't make that mistake.

My "highly trained professional gunners" tend to be stuck in the bow quarters with the Sani dabbing at their wounds by the time I have hit the Atlantic!

Plus I had a really bad experience of watching a fire fight between my U-boat and some fighter bombers off Benghazi, being thrilled at the accuracy of their fire as I gently cruised into an Egyptian tugboat.

OMG!

I am not the only one who has done this, I swear I was trying to lock on a ship at periscope depth, was getting quite irate and ticked off as to why I couldnt lock on. Chased this ship for quite a while to close the gap, and then hopefully it would lock.

All of a sudden it disappeared.................when it fell of my screen an onto my desk.!

Guilty too, your honour...

Especially those that somehow always end up on the horizon line in the scope.

Nice to know I'm not the only one who feels the need to smoke like crazy while playing SH3. It's especially nice while you're being depth charged. *SSSSSSAAAAAHHHH*....oh yeah. Nicotine eases the pain.

@Firewall:

Wouldn't that be a fun conversation with the doctor? "I see you've taken up smoking! At forty-five! What the hell's the matter with you?"

"Well, I was going for a more realistic U-boat experience..."

A pipe is a perfect accopmaniment to SH3! I used smoke cigarettes while playing but the pipe lasts for much longer - gives you something to do while stalking and evading. Plus it somehow feels more sort of "sailory"

Had the crazy idea once of observing the no smoking when submerged discipline as uboat crews would have had to but after two hours of dodging depth charges that idea gets rather unappealing!!

SERIOUSLY INTERFERE WITH
YOUR U-BOAT
