Default Allied Ships raining from the sky

I installed GWX 2.0 yesterday and twice since then have encountered this issue - I'll be submerged at periscope depth, with English ships scouting me out up above, when I hear the 'Yeah!' exclamation from one of my crew, which usually accompanies a Torp hit - and the sound of explosions. Confused, I go into free view and poke the camera above the surface, only to be confronted with a burning ship raining from the sky again and again (it respawns in the sky every rime it hits the water) until after a few seconds I CTD.

Vista, in its infinite wisdom, hasn't generated any error reports for me, so I can't post any data, but GWX is the only mod I'm using, and it came with its own installer, so I'm reasonably confident that I didn't cock up the installation.

I suspect this is an issue with two ships colliding, since both times there were a few ships up there - the first time a V&W and what I think was a torp boat, while the second time I was in an English post which was heavy with armed trawlers.

I've been in similar isutations without GWX and never encountered anything like this. Is it a known issue in GWX?

edit - just read the update notes for 2.1 which mentions self-destruction of certain ships with depth charages. This may well be my issue, so apologies for wasting your time.
