Death of a Legend

Yakup Satar, the last Ottoman veteran of World War I, has apparently died (April 2nd). Satar was 110 years old, and had fond memories of the 1910's and 1920's. He joined the Ottoman Empire's army in 1915, and was taken prisoner by the British at the Second Battle of Kut in Baghdad. He served with Mustafa Kemal Ataturk during the Turkish War of Independence from 1919-1922, and could remember the downfall of the Ottoman Empire.

One last Austria-Hungarian veteran; no more German veterans and no more Ottoman veterans. It's a lonelier front, now. Almost all the veterans of the Central Powers are gone now, save for Franz Kunstler. How sad it is going to be when all are gone. The last of the Tommies, and the last of the Bosch are standing. There are a little over 10 remaining veterans total, and an even smaller number actually saw combat during the war.

What are we going to do when they're all gone...?
