Auto-load
What happens when you un-check the auto-load button on the weapons screen?
Do you have to choose what torpedo goes into what tube and initiate the reload process? Which do you guys use-auto-loading checked or un-checked? I would think that auto-load un-checked would be better if you have a variety of torpedo types loaded on your boat, if it works the way I think it works. Gives you control on exactly what torpedo you want in a particular tube. Thanks. ![]() |

I keep it unchecked, basically I like to have control over when loading takes place and to avoid any risk of loading accidentally starting at a bad time: eg if just after a shoot and by some chance I'm not on silent running (which prevents loading) and somehow I've got people that I haven't moved out of the torpedo compartment.

Not much to add there except for one thing:
If you want to use salvos of torpedoes you should take care that you don't mix different types of torps into one salvo. I mean, you *could* shoot a steam powered eel at low speed so that it matches the speed of a slower electrical torpedo but then you would give up the steam's greatest advantage - it's speed. And you can't choose the tubes for a salvo freely, just the given configurations (i.e. tubes 1 and 3 or tubes 2 and 4). So it is best to take care that tubes 1+3 are loaded with the same kind of torpedo in case you want to use them in a salvo. |

If any of your torpedo tubes gets destroyed by depth charges or other damage your crew will (begrudingly) remove the torpedo's still in the tubes so you can move them into working ones. If you leave the auto-load checked the crew will just leave the eels in their (destroyed) tubes even if you still have 1 or more functional ones in that compartment.

Yes, I most certainly wish auto-load wasn't the default. It's only use is that it gives you that extra fraction of a second of reload time, which is rarely that important.

Don't want to go off on a rant here but this lack of information seems to be prevalent with Ubi game manuals. Whomever writes these things obviously doesn't do it with the user in mind. For the longest time I didn't even know how to read incoming radio messages. I know that it's the "M" shortcut key but I didn't know that until I read it here.

I found the SH3 manual very good for starting
a nice fire!! It lacks at soaking up spills, wipeing your behind, or giveing you any kind of information that can REALLY assist you in game. Other then that? We probably paid more for that bit of paper then the disk the game came on! ![]() |
