Default OTC vs SCAF ... what's the scoop?

Hi,

Returning to SHV 1.5 after some hiatus. I'm getting ready to re-mod the game with TMO 2.5 and RSRD. For other mods, I'm planning on 1.5 OTC correction (1440x900) screen ...
But I have one question .. What';s the relationship of SCAF for "RSRDCv502_2.0" and "1.5 OTC 031212 for TMO 2.5"

are they different flavors of the same mod or two stand alone mods??

Please be gentle....

SCAF for RSRDCv502_2.0 = Old and Busted.

1.5 OTC 031212 for TMO 2.5 = New Hotness.

If you're going to use TMO 2.5 and RSRDC v502 (the version of RSRDC that works with TMO), loading Optical Targeting Correction 1.5 for RSRDCv502 will bring you up to date. This edition of OTC 1.5 is compatible with RSRDC v502; its Patch_1; and TMO. At its download site, the title name is "1.5_Optical Targeting Correction 031312 for RSRDCv502.rar".

The difference between SCAF and OTC are many. To name a few of the most important ones:

Corrected the world Field of View through the periscopes/TBT, allowing for objects to be displayed as their size intended. This will allow the Telemeter Divisions of the scope to be used for the first time as an authentic and accurate measuring device.....not just decoration on the scope lens. Specific to the resolution/aspect ratio a player uses, it was found differences in these views existed. Making it necessary to use a specific correction to the Aspect Ratio for the various resolutions used. These corrections are in the "Aspect Ratio" folders. Choose the correction that fits your system. There is no correction to the views in SCAF (I didn't know there needed to be one when I released Ship Centered, Accuracy Fix).

Put in-game a device called an Omnimeter that will use the Telemeter Divisions to calculate range when knowing a targets height. Using the targets length, the Omnimeter will calculate a targets Angle on Bow when knowing a targets range. Use it like a slide rule.....but much easier. The Omnimeter is an authentic device many firing teams used to help in calculations.

Put in-game a Range Dial that will provide a means of entering a targets range to the Torpedo Data Computer (TDC). This could be used for any range finding made by counting the periscope telemeter divisions, or one attained from Radar. A "calculated guess" could be entered at a moment's notice if one is needed.

Reworked the Radar units ability to pick up objects (it was found the stock game radar couldn't find objects within easy visual range). Added an "overlay" to the two U.S. radar screens to aid in correct range and bearing findings at all selected ranges. Tweaked the radar view to allow for a zoomed feature to better see the returns. Tweaked the various radar parts to coincide with the necessary changes.

The similarities between SCAF and OTC are finding the Recognition Manual having corrected measurements and added pictures to the game. Much like SCAF, OTC has specific placements for measureing points on a target. These points are accuratly measured and provided for the use of the Stadimeter, and the Telemeter Divisions. Target height has been corrected where needed for both. OTC added a target length, to help in figuring AoB with the use of the Omnimeter.

@ BernieP2, you say you're running the game at a 1440X900 resolution. 1440x900 uses an 8:5 aspect ratio. You'll want to load the "OTC for 8:5 Aspect Ratio" additional mod, after the main OTC mod, to correct the FoV of your scopes. This additional mod, and others, are in the single download of the above linked mod. Just make sure you read the documentation and README's.

Both mods are stand-alone in their function. To be sure, OTC is a much more "advanced" mod for manual targeting.
