Default Promotions.... What's the Point!!!

I don't get the fact that in the main Campaign we have the option to give out promotios but aren't actually allowed to promote anyone due to the fact that the sub is already Maxed out on Officers and Nco's...

So what's the point of promotions???

And no I'm not looking to have a sub unrealistically full of Officers but a few extra Nco's wouldn't be so bad IMHO.

And why would I ever dismiss and Officer/Nco with patrol exp just to make room to promote a rookie sailor...???

What do you all do regarding this issue in your Campaigns???

I don't know about why you would let people go in the game, but in real life they had no choice. Up to 1/3 of the crew were rotated out after every patrol, to get new guys teamed up with old hands so they could benefit from others' experience.

Agreed!

Why would I let people go in the game to enable Promotions...

So again, based on the above, promotions are useless...

Unless the game rotates senior saliors out after a period of time which I haven't seen yet.

It's a "role playing" feature. It's there for immersion, but it isn't really advantegous to use from a practical point of view.

At least they didn't model letters that had to be censored by the captain and other officers.

It helps the War Effort to rotate senior officers and experienced sailors. An officer may get assigned his own boat for example thus widening the advantage. It's not reflected in the sim but it's a plausible outcome. It's like combat pilots. They're more valuable than the aircraft itself. You can manufacture weapons faster than you can train another enlisted man. So it makes sense to rotate.
