Default If you joined the navy what would you do?

Or what would you serve on to be exact?

Please vote and state why you feel this is the right choice for you.

Carriers, simply because I have a love for aviation. And even though I'd be in the navy, aviation would still be a way of life.

Due to some physical maladies, I cannot join any military. So, there.

ASW Chopper pilot, mayhap.
Probably too tall to pilot anything smaller than a C-5

I'd have to go for those graceful greyhounds of the sea....the destroyer.

If I'm totally honest though.....I ticked them all to see if it made a difference.

Well, depends on what types of vessles your navy actually has, and where the powers that be think you're needed.
I volunteered for Frigate and second choice missile boat and got assigned to a tall ship, go figure.
:rotfl:

Generally for enlisted ranks, I'd say smaller combat units like missile boats and mine warfare (and submarines, of course) units are preferable.
Ships with larger crews (above 50 or so) come only in two ways:
- tight ships resembling floating barracks
- ships where officers don't care and senior enlisted men establish a bullying system
On small units, there is a much stronger spirit of comradeship.
Missile boats/corvettes are definitely sexier, as these are the only surface units of today that are actually designed to sink other ships. Destroyers/Frigates are mostly to escort stuff. But especially missile boats are not for those who get seasick easily.
These are the "greyhounds" of today, while the old "greyhounds" are among the largest units that navies have.
But of course mine warfare has its own attaction, especially as those are usually the only ships of a navy that regularly blow stuff up.
Basically on a mine hunter, wartime and peacetime duties are just the same.
Submarines are a class by themselves. I dunno how large submarines like US SSBNs are run, but smaller SSKs crews are generally a elite force.
A navy within the navy, admired by the rest of the bunch. But of course many people might have a problem with not seeing the sun or even daylight for weeks
Auxiliaries in most navies tend to be run by reservists or civilians, so service on one of them is more like a job in the merchant marine.

I would absolutely go SSN; of course I'm biased having served on 2 of them along with a few other things.....although if you are looking for space then SSBN is the way to go just fewer port calls and what not. Either way submarines are the way to go.
