Default Ubisoft & SHV

Do you think we will see a SHV, with action back in the Atlantic and the german role playing. The Floks at Go gamer told me there was twice as many SHIII solid world wide than SH IV.

Possibly. I hope they widen the field in terms of subs. Maybe include Germany's Italian allies. My biggest fear is that they'll see some hot FPS geared to kids selling ten times as many copies as SHIII world wide and concentrate on those instead.

Hi, in my opinion could be fine a cold war scenario, playable on both american/russian front.

Of course, maybe it could be annoyng due to the lack of real battles! (just spy stories... )

anyway, i'm curious...

The next Silent Hunter should be global. You could play a career for any of the major warring powers. SH3 and SH4 combined already have most of that now just add Japanese, British and Italian subs and you got a global sim

Default Hypothetical scenario for SHV

Just a wild experimental thought, They could always make a hypothetical scenario with modern submarines, not sure what kind of engagement it would be but maybe a fictional scenario with two competing sides, however it should still focus on the accuracy of sub ops etc and be realistc as can be achieved.

As i say just a thought i've had in mind for a while, I've never attempted to modify games or anything like that so the idea is very brief how it would work in practice therefore i have no idea.

And SH3 has been out three times as long, so by that criterion should have sold three times as many. Not a good comparison.

And of course each of those new countries will need interiors, crew, uniforms, and, most importantly, expensive voice actors; plus a new program to combine all of the above. You're looking at 10 years of production and $100 for the game. Probably better to do them one at a time and see how they sell. You can only play one sub at a time anyway.

SHIV is based on the same graphics engine as SHIII. They just upped the pretty so to speak because cpu's can handle it better than in 1995. With that thought in mind why not combine the two? They (Ubi) could easily and cheaply update SHIII to SHIV standards of graphics quality (I think somebody here has already modded SHIV special effects and eye candy to SHIII) So its do able. Just add one more thing (Japanese career?) throw it all together in one executable and walla SHV!

It's 'voila', and aside from the afore-mentioned voice-actor problem, I'm all for it! As time goes on they should be able to add just about anything: other nations' subs, modern warfare, surface ships, interactive anti-submarine warfare (DC2 I'm thinking), and just about anything else. All it takes is time and money.

why not some cold war scenario? who cares about real life, thats what game is for. Make the US and USSR duke it out during some imaginary 50s conflict, when subs were not so much better then in WW2, but you can have some nuclear too.

on other hand, why not not finally improve gameplay in terms of wolfpacks.add real shadows. Allow play for Russian and Japanese and Italian and French and UK sides.

And while it will render the tag Silent Hunter pointless, Id really like to have some Violent Hunter too where I can command Battleships and stuff. Violent Hunter is copyrighted (just in case)!!

I would like to see the next generation of sub sims to be more in depth into the operation of the submarine it self.

Design it so you can play the game from different crew positions.

Currently we have the player taking the role of Captain but giving them the chance to temporarily play other crew stations. It has to be temporary as there is no Captain but the player.

I would love to have a sub sim (either US or German) where not only do you have the option of playing Captain but also have the option of playing one of the other crew members and have the AI take over as Captain.

Diving officer is one such interest with me. Instead of just hitting "C" for crash dive, as the subs diving officer I would be responsible for the actual controlled submergence of the sub where I would be in control of all the vents and such. There could be a variance in realism so that the player can actually learn how to dive and surface a sub. There will come a point where the player is doing it at 100%

The plot is another station I would like to immerse myself in. The computer AI gives me the observations and I have to manually make the plot using only the tools available and only using the data given me. Like the diving officer there would be a variance in realism for educational purposes, but ultimately the goal is to be 100%

Most other positions would not be suitable for a game type simulator but these are just a few.

An interesting twist would be that the player would have to qualify for command by moving up from diving officer/plot to Captain.

Be a cooleo way to learn the tradecraft.

From what I've read on these forums over the years, I'm pretty sure if SHV only added working wolfpacks to the mix, it'll sell like the proverbial hotcakes.

Agreed

I believe there will be a SHV....but have no idea what it'll be representative of. Perhaps after the SS 2008 meeting we'll have a better idea

Personally, I'd like to see a role reversal game released. Commanding hunter killer groups of WWII naval vessels hunting U-boats

Yeah, that's the area that 2002's Destroyer Command covered. A follow-up is long overdue. Multiplayer between escorts and subs, if done correctly would be quite the draw.

that would be great especially if it were a dedicated in depth anti-submarine simulator.

A anti-sub sim where you really have to use the sonar and hydrophones to detect and locate the sub

I liked DC but it was rather shallow, no pun intended

Using the hydrophones and sonar is cool, and I wouldn't want to lose it, but on the other hand the captain is on the bridge and has to work from there.

Don't get me wrong; I'd like to have it both ways.
