Default My first sonar/radar kill!

Just thought I'd share my joy. So there I was, 1st patrol in the USS Runner south of Tokyo. It's nasty weather- high seas, heavy fog and rain. I've been tracking several radar contacts, setting up for approach and, even at point blank range, the ship would pass right in front of me unseen, like a ghost. Frustrated, and with the storm stubbornly hanging on for days, I decided to try a non-visual attack. The SJ picks up a southbound target and I determined base course, then went to periscope depth for sonar ranging. Lo and behold, the TDK seems to be matching my sonar readings, and, as soon as she's within firing range, I fired all 4 stern tubes with a good spread, never knowing what I was shooting at. First fish hit and I was elated, although it turned out to be a small old split freighter. She cracked in two with the first fish, so I wasted the other three, but it was incredibly satisfying! One question, the site of the sinking was marked with a grey ship instead of a red one. Is that becasue it was never identified by me? Or could it really have been a neutral ship sailing off the coast of Japan? Anyway, good hunting all...and don't be afraid to try a sonar/radar attack next time it's nasty weather out there!

Good hunting,
Howler
