Default [ReQ] Natural sinking mod??

I see the sh4 section all the time and wonder if sh3 has a natural sinking mod in the works...all physics handled

so, is there one? i know all the engines and systems are close so i bet we could adapt it as well...

I believe both GWX and NYGM did versions of this a long time ago

There is an option in SH3 called 'Realistic Ship Sinking Times" (I think it's called that) which I suspect is meant to go some way towards what you are talking about. Having said that I think the GWX team have got the way ships sink in SH3 about right. Sometimes ships take quite a time to sink in GWX and to be honest I don't want to hang around for hours waiting for a ship to sink to get the credit. If on the other hand credit was given as soon as a ship was torpedoed and critically damaged even if it took several hours or even days to sink then that would be fine, but SH3 doesn't work that way unfortunately.

I think you'll find that in many instances you do get the "She's going down" message and the sunken ship icon long before the ship succumbs (usually to the varied effects of flooding)

I'm quite pleased it works as it does. The uncertainty seems to me quite realistic. Kaleuns weren't psychic. They had no way of instantaneously knowing if the torpedo hit was going to wind up sinking the ship or not. Often they had to make choices (when they could) of following up with a second (third, forth? --grins--) shot or deck gunning (when they could) to finish them off.

They didn't get credit for 'maybes' or 'could haves', but only when it had been confirmed a ship had sunk. And if no one was around to see (or hear) it sink, then how was BdU to know it had sunk? At best it would have been reported and logged as damaged or somesuch.

Leastwise that's my zwei pfennig worth.

Pascal, what are you going to change it to? "She's going down!" is a lot better than "Enemy unit sunk." On the other hand, I'm thinking of making all of those messages blank.

Well, now this will greatly add higher level of realism.

Back in college the former was the sweetest words a 19 year old boy could ever hear!

Exactly... this by far is the great of all immersion killers. gun the NA somehow and the sunk ship icon if in doubt you can check your captains log...but at least its a beginning
