Here are some pics that show the transport of the u-boats from the
Baltic Sea via river Elbe via the Autobahn via the river Danube to Yugoslavia to the Black Sea. Headline is “U-boats on the Autobahn”, German text only http://einestages.spiegel.de/static/...r=5&a=1342&c=1 Subtitles say: 1) U 19 in the harbour of Konstanza/Romania 2) emblem of U 18: torpedo penetrates the red star 3) U 18 towed on the river Danube near Ogradena/Yugoslavia, 4) u-boat near Regensburg/Germany, low 12th century bridge had caused problems 5) disembarkment near Ingolstadt/Germany to river Danube , u-boat on a low loading truck 6) u-boat on the Autobahn near Dresden/Neustadt, up to 4 tractors pulling, 300 km distance between rivers Elbe and Danube 7) u-boat at the garden fence, movement is difficult 8) U 19 and U 24 still in Kiel/Germany, first 2 u-boats to be transferred from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea 9) returning after 60 years: former captain of U 24 Rolf Arendt on visit in Turkey 10) U 18 leaves harbour |
