Noober Query regarding Mods

I really want to try the ROW mod to see what everyone is raving about (and also to get a feel for Dave's work...sadly he passed before I joined up here). If I install ROW or any other mod, will it adversely effect my savegames from my current career? Can I activate a mod on a career that is already started, or do I need to start a new one with the mod enabled?

As far as I know, you don't need to restart a career when you add ROW. All you need to do is be in port when you add it.
