My first Dolphin contact!

Hi, after all this time, well over a year since the dolphin mod was done, I finally made contact!
I was starting off a new patrol and passing through AN67, thought I'd take her down & listen for possable ship contacts, what I heard was the sound of dolphins. I noted their position, waited a few minutes then noted again, this gave me their course, so I surfaced & headed out at flank speed, I really wanted to see this, I caught up with the group and wasn't dissapointed, the picture doesn't do it justice, you have to see it in motion on & below surface:

Thanks to the creators/editors & the GWX team for including this!

I have not seen any out at sea but there was one in the Cadiz harbor area. I can't wait to come across a whale as well.
Cool screen shot anyway.

I've seen them in a few habours first sighting I got was just north of Bergen. They randomly pop up from time to time in various places.

I've seen them often when pulling away from the Bessel anchored at Vigo as well, a very nice touch indeed.

The two most amazing things that GWX did to me concerned the 1.3 version. The first was hearing the dolphins on the sonar. The second was hearing another submarine/uboat on the sonar. I was absolutely floored when I heard these two sounds on the sonar. Talk about cool, creative and immersive. Needless to say, I investigated the dolphins but I slunk away from the unknown submerged contact. I knew something was there but was not going to find out if friend or foe.....

The real sad part is there are probably more whales in GWX than there are currently in the worlds oceans. It royally pisses me off when countries continue to hunt whales, most of which are considered endangered... when there is absolutely no fecking need to. Its an outrage.

Some animals are endangered by way of natural selection pure and simple. Whales are endangered because of the actions of human kind. Its sick, and one of the things I will probably be upset about till my dying day.

EDIT:
Sorry didn't want to drag the thread down but that was on my mind so out it came. Congrats on your dolphin, still waiting to see one I am...

Not at all, I totally agree!
@ Jim, I haven't seen any whales yet, probably be another year!
@ Von Kinderei, it's standard in both GWX 1.03 & 2.0.

Sounds like a good job for a freelancing u-boat, doesn't it! Sail the high seas, meet interesting people and sink their whaling ship. Adventure and a service to several species...yeah :hmm:

I don't know where people get the idea that all whale species are endangered, or that they are all hunted.

Not true on both accounts.

Some whale species are endangered, some critically so (like the Northern Right Whale). Others, like the Minke Whale, are not endangered, and in fact are quite common.

I'd like to point out that it is the Minke Whale is the one that is most commonly hunted, and there are about 184,000 of them.

The current quota for Minke set by the IWC is about 1,000 a year. The current population can easily sustain that level of hunting.

Other species that were endangered have made remarkable comebacks, like the Pacific Gray Whale.

I don't have much of a problem with hunting whales per se, myself. From my perspective as a hunter, whales are just another species. You mileage obviously varies on the subject, and I can certainly respect that. However, if it is going to be done, I'm sure that you would agree with me that it should be done in a manner that is regulated and sustainable (ie., don't kill the endangered species, quotas that maintain growth for the species that are hunted).

Would you rather it be done within a regulated international framework that attempts to protect the species that really need protection, or that it go back to the bad old days of unregulated factory whaling?

To kind of guide this back on topic, I can't WAIT to try GWX2. I'll be sure and hide my harpoons, lances, and flensing knives when you visit my boat.

Edited to soften the language somewhat, and to be more like my (I hope) reasonable self.
