Default Simple Text Based Modding for Dummies

Ok so heres the deal I am re orienting myself on shiv modding and
going back through relearning what I experimented with last march
and april, getting to know my way around the shiv file structure again
in so doing I took up tutoring on Simple Text based shiv modding
while I am relearning my way around.

now this tutorial buisness has come to public light and with the
cat out of the bag I intend a change in format either switching
it to an actual tutorial thread or just writing a full tutorial and
boxing it up and uploading it. either way the email thing isnt going
to work for me in its current form and I am anxious to get this
one out of the way as I both need to finish learning my own way
around again and I also have another bigger project in mind.

so I guess this thread is to ask the questions as follows
if you havent already contacted me and want to follow along
with the tutorial on simple text based modding of shiv then leave
your name here as at this time I still havent commited to the
idea of a thread and I may as well compose the full mailing list
just in case I go the other way.

if you dont want your email addy public pm it to me
but post here so I can get an idea of the numbers were
looking at.

at the moment those already on the list are....

RDP
Capzap
AVG
Clay P
Travis Reed
Xypher

Im sure I missed Someone there I apologize up front and if so post below.

now bear in mind that although it will help fairly fast getting you
modding to a certain extent somethings may take a while as I
have to figure them out again the hard way and at this point the
new format hasnt been decided on or written

Post your thoughts and thanks.

Easy there I didnt commit to a thread yet.:rotfl:

heres what it more or less will and wont do for you.

it will let you change what subs are available at what
bases when you start up
it will let you change start up money
it will let you pre qualify your crew
it will let you change what sorts of
equipment and upgrades are available to
your sub type.
it will let you change the dates for equip
and conning tower availability
it will let you change mission and patrol objectives
and dates
it will let you alter the spawning point of your sub in game
(though why you would want too I dont know)
it will let you add some new upgrade packs
it will allow you to rename items
it will allow you to add or change text to various none playing game
screens

it wont
change any existing or add any new 3d models thats modding
but thats not text based modding thats hex based modding.

it wont
enable any new subs

it doesnt teach you how to add skins or such

but it does allow a few things not intended.

Mush - I wont sign up for it (although I am sure you would teach us all stuff we didnt know) - but would encourage you to make it a thread so that its available for the entire community. I have stayed away from most of the text editing myself as I have not had the patience to hack my way through it. Have done a bit, but very little. Remember any "How-To" you create will further the knowledge of the community if you thread it. So again I encourage you - thread all the way!!!

Even if I dont make a thread the tutorial will still be compressed and
posted for all.
its a debate about time management really maintaining an active
thread is a commitment and although I do like the format quite a bit.
I also want to do some modding and playing myself.

so I think pre writing a few segments takes priority at the moment
everyones a little anxious and the guys I started with have been
without anything from me for a few days.

so Im off to start the whole deal up.

Later
