Lo fellow kaleuns
its july 20th 1940 im in grid bb75 near halifax harbour of the canadian coast i spot two narrow waterways that run past halifax harbour into a large inlet of water some 6km wide at its largest point suddenly my soundman picks up contacts from this area so i run at silent through halifax harbour....up a shallow river( my tower was breaking surface)....and into this large inlet of water.....only to find APPROXIMATELY 50 MERCHANTS ALL LINED UP AS IF IN CONVOY AND THERE IS NO MOVEMENT!!!!!! SITTING DUCKS!!!! After having a field day torpedoing and shelling dozens of ships i quit and reloaded as this is obviously not right was it a spawning point or something for the game engine or what????:hmm: :hmm: |

Could be a forming up or dispersal point, there's a similar point near Clyde I think, I did run into a large collection of ships there, including two tankers which had been split in two by bad weather.
Although I think this was GWX 1.03 rather than GWX2 |

They really did have to organize somewhere. The problem is those areas were heavily covered by air patrols, and in shallow water like that a u-boat is impossible to miss (in more ways than one). By all rights you should be dead now.

If I'm not mistaken historically most convoys were using the Gulf of St Laurence as their assembly point. I am not 100% sure but I think what you found is the assembly area of some of the Halifax Convoys.

Another strange convoy thing: I've just met a convoy that seemed to be completely stuck in open seas (about AM7813). The weather was excellent, no wind at all, they were reported by BdU to be headed NNE at 7 knots, so I went to intercept. Plotted the course and waited... and waited... and waited... for hours. They were all the time on the hydrophone, but never got closer, they just changed bearing from, say, 330 to 30, then back to 330. After I got impatient I sailed in their general direction, tracking them with my hydrophone, and finally got close enough to see the first escort (a Swan Class). She was just wandering to and fro, at low or medium speed, from right to left and back. So were the merchants (beyond my visible range). No sounds of broken or sinking ships, just the screws, and my hydrophone guy repeatedly reported them anew, anew and anew (but they never went out of his range). The BdU report came at 0306, I left the spot late the next night, and they were still there.
![]() BTW: I got a bug in the same time, that prevented me from using TDC, so I quit the game with "Abandon career" option... and was sent to my office screen, with all the options, like going to another patrol, managing the crew, buying sub upgrades. ![]() GWX 2.0 + totally innocent mods + OLC GUI for GWX 2.0.

I had something similar:
I got a report for a convoy, near Hull. I tracked it and it went directly towards Hull... and disappeared. I found only one docked lightship. Note that there is no harbour in Hull. :hmm: Also, my TDC got stuck (?). |

well well well, from what i gather i didnt stumble upon some game spawning point or space time vortex...but a ligitimate converging point...and i quit my game too...thinking it must have been a fault!!!!!
ony kidding guys...i took that mutch damage infiltrating that place i was never getting out alive!!! not realistic at all...using my external camera to navigate all those deadly sandbanks long the way....but it was fun though while it lasted!!!! my advice HERR KALEUNS DONT BE TEMTED BY THE TONNAGE...YOURE ONLY CHEATIN YOURSELF!!!!WAIT FOR A FAIRER FIGHT!!!! p.s it is fun tho!!!! |
