Default With GWX2.0, is SH3commander still worth using?

Since there is known compatibility issue with malfunctions/sabotage and GWX2 and minor incompatibility regarding realistic flotilla dates, is SH3 commander still worth using? Or will there be a new SH3 commander, fully compatible with GWX2?

The malfunctions cfg is being worked on now
Just dont use malfunctions till its been tested and released
Was an oversight on our part as all that was changed was a TGA from 1.03
Made a difference we didnt know about till yesterday

Flotilla dates ?
Not heard that one

You've got that around the wrong way - any incompatibility issues between GWX 2 and SH3Cmdr need to be addressed by the GWX team, not by me (as dev of SH3Cmdr).

The Sensors.dat offset error has been fixed by the GWX team and I'm sure a new file will be available soon. Problem 1 solved.

Now realistic Flotilla dates? That ain't SH3Cmdr - it merely uses whatever exists in the game; it doesn't tinker with the dates at all.

However, if you are talking historic U-boat availability dates, again, this is one for the GWX team to investigate as they have released an updated availability file as part of their SH3Cmdr Cfg file set. Having created the file for all previous versions of GWX, I know for 100% certainty that there was no incompatibility problem. However, the file has been changed since then and some things did jump out as odd (nothing major though) when I had a look the other day, but as I don't have GWX 2, I can't compare.

Will have to look at that Jaesen as IIRC nothing was changed in any cfg except the displacements and ship names
Randomised events should have
Certainly not the U-boat availability.cfg to my knowledge

It was last edited on 11 Nov 07. IIRC the main changes were to some sub availability dates (not all) but I could be wrong because I now think that I may have compared the new file to the original SH3Cmdr file and not to the 1.03 one!

Anyway, I would be very surprised if it was causing any compatibility problems, UNLESS you guys didn't reconcile sub availability dates with sub equipment availability dates that are stored elsewhere in Basic.cfg (ie ensuring that a sub doesn't become available before the basic turm etc). But that would surprise me to. And this whole conversation would be moot if Flotilla.cfg hasn't been changed because effectively there's been no changes since the first GWX release.

Either way, this has nothing to do with Flotilla availaility dates, so I'm at a loss to know what the OP is referring to: I'll now hand ball this one back to you guys.

BBW, was Flotilla.cfg changed in GWX2? If not, then I don't see a problem - the same realistic dates and compatibility with SH3Cmdr will still exist as has existed since GWX1 was released over a year ago (even regardless of any "wayward" U-boat availability date changes).

The OP needs to provide more detailed information on this aspect...

As far as I'm concerned, the answer has something to do with bears, the Pope and the woods

Oh, I like both. And yes, apart from some skins and OLC these are the only mods/apps I use while running SH3. But I get the distinct feeling that a lot of what was unique to SH3cmdr is now incorporated in GWX2. Things like correct VIIc/41 type in game, correct flottilla dates (as stated in the rather volumous GWX2 manual under installing), "virtual" thermal layers and nice paintschemes. It just seems to me that SH3cmdr has less "value" since GWX2.

Also, what I noticed is that, when starting a new career, the flotilla-choice screen seems "off" when using SH3cmdr. The flottilla's are displayed by their name when using SH3cmdr, only not completely (Weddigen = Weddi, Saltzwedel = Saltzw). A minor thing, but a "bug" nonetheless.

Umm, never been in SH3Cmdr. A "fudge" workaround was included up to about a year ago, but certainly that was never meant to be the ultimate solution. Indeed, as soon as Cobalt released his VIIC/41, the fudge was pulled from SH3Cmdr (in fact, come to think of it I may have even pulled it earlier - can't remember now. Certainly seems more than a year ago).

I remember that Cobalt originally released his VIIC/41 playable sub as an SH3Cmdr add-on. That method is actually more efficient than GWX2's "optional mod" implementation as SH3Cmdr automatically installed the relevant files when needed, rather than the files needing to be manually enabled by the user. But that's neither here nor there afaic. Although, when I get GWX2 running I'll be moving the VIIC/41 playable sub mod out of JSGME and into SH3Cmdr. Just one less thing to worry about then.

Umm, never been in SH3Cmdr. SH3Cmdr has always utilised the flotilla dates that exist in the game. However, one thing exclusive to SH3Cmdr is that it allows you to start new careers in any month during the life of any flotilla.

Only SH3Cmdr provides random thermal layers. I can't recall ever reading that GWX (well, any mod for that matter) includes thermal layers sans SH3Cmdr.

And with paint schemes, yes, the improved ship skins from the old SH3Cmdr/GWX skin pack have been rolled into GWX2, but you are forgetting that in doing so the ability to change skins based on date was lost. Whether the GWX team releases a new skin pack that takes advantage of SH3Cmdr's Date feature is up to them.

Sorry mate, not a bug, a display limitation of SH3. Certainly wouldn't classify it as a bug in either SH3Cmdr *or* GWX2.

Methinks someone needs to read up on the full feature set of SH3Cmdr before making erroneous claims.

Actually, I read your comments as a good indication as to why SH3Cmdr and GWX2 go so well together - the fact that you can't tell which does what highlights the integration of the two and the tight way they work together to enhance the player's experience.

@BBW: NFA mate.

JScones,

ok then!! Thanks for clearing that up for me, quadruple slap for me then , for making all the wrong assumptions.

Happy to oblige you with pointing out all the wonderful plusses of using SH3+GWX2+SH3cmdr :rotfl: !

Close this thread then, never mind, Tobus needs some sleep ... desperately .
