Ok, here it is men and perhaps we can find the key to the connection. When I use the S class submarine, the watch crew will say, 'ship spotted bearing ###. When I use any other submarine, the watch crew just says, 'ship spotted'. What is the connection of the S class and the men giving the bearing as opposed to any of the other submarines? I do not know and do no know how to begin looking at it. Can one of the talented modders here locate the connection with the S class and getting the crew response we need for 'Ship spotted bearing ###'? What is the trigger for the entire phrase and can this trigger be applied to the other submarines? Any and all thoughts to getting this working are welcome!!!

I don't know if this is the same glitch, but
Every time we surface from extended depth beyond PD,we are told ship spotted, but there is nothing at bearing indicated on sonar ,or radar:hmm:

Only in the S class will the crew tell the bearing. No other submarines does not do this. My question is what does the s class have in the files that make the men say the bearing but the other submarine files do not?

That is just weird, since i never use S boats, i never noticed. Only thing that pops into my head is to take a look at the dsd or val file for the S class, or one of its conning towers, and compare that to a gato or something.

Or does it work for both?

![]() ![]() Here I am tooling along in my S class. Note the text. Men are telling me the bearing. This is the only sub that does this.

They both use the same files. The S-42 is an object, that is inheirting its model from the S-18. From a standpoint of looking at the hard data files (not upc or cfg files), they are basically two instances of the same object. Tambor and gar have the same relationship.

I still have a lot to learn that is for sure. But gives me more to look into for comparisons to see what is missing. |

Open up the CFG file for said subs, and look where it defines its model data. edit: Just FYI, this is how i created "bungo pete". You can do this with any player sub, ship, or plane.

It was just an "oh btw" sort of info.
If the phrases only work in the S class, then it has to be a file particular to the S class. I don't think the voice dat files specify utterances for specific subs, or do they? One would think the files associated with whats spoken by the crew is "universal" or a system that could be applied to any sub the player uses. (otherwise you woudlnt hear a peep on the narwhal). So its probably something specfic to the S class. Hence, maybe the DSD file for it? Or the dat? If you examine the S class in the game, you can see its where the developers put a bit more polish on it. You can click on more of the crew, and they react to you for example, this also isnt really there in other subs. So Im guessing it was probably one of the first subs they started working on, as such it got their "best effort", but as time wore on, subsequent subs didnt get the same hours spent on it, so details were cut. Thats my guess anyway. I noticed the same thing in SH3. The most detail and lifelike interior was the type 2, then the type 7, and on the type 9, its like they ran out of energy to work on it. So i suspect we have something similar here with the S class. |

But it is so hard for us when we have to figure out where to start and how to do it. Like for example the stupid lightning thing for me. After months of exploring and experimenting I am still no where. On some of the stuff for the subs I am in the same possition. I can figure some of it out but other stuff is still keeping me stumped. |

I know that feeling all too well. To this day, i still want a working internal fuel gauge for the type 9 interior in SH3, and on thing that persists into SH4, is the camera angle when you crash dive... its backward! |

Could the files for the S class that seems to have received more attention and makes the men state the bearing be moved to the other submarines thus making these subs do the same thing?
