Help!! Advice needed! SH3 GWX2 crashes on me!

I get so far into a campaign - roughly the beginning of 1942 and the game just doesn't want to play anymore!

The computer I am using meets & exceeds all requirements for running the SH3 & GWX2 expansion (OK, I did fry a graphics card but that was due to a clogged air filter on the air intake!), I have recently replaced the graphics card and all was well... Until this evening! When I try to start up the game, I get into the "Not so long ago" screen then all goes black - followed by a windows error and the inevitable error reporting option.

This is driving me nuts! Does anyone know of any patches or fixes to sort this out?

This was the same before whilst running GWX1 I've made clean installs of SH3, patched to 1.4b and then installed GWX1. I play, get so far then the computer says no..... Looks like it's the same headache with GWX2....

Anyone got any clues or help for me?

Thanks guys!

I'm a bit confused, but are you saying you were able to run GWX 2.0 and had been running a campaign from 1939 to 1942? If you are trying to continue a campaign in GWX 2.0 that you had started in GWX 1.03, that may be a problem. The GWX team install procedures recommended the SH3 folder in your My Documents be deleted and a new one established after installing 2.0. Also, many people running 2.0 for the first time get to the "Not so long ago" screen and think the game has frozen. Actually, it may take a couple of minutes, but the load will eventually progress and normally will load faster in subsequent launches.

I think its a catch 22 situation you got, sometimes it works sometimes it dont. I blame starforce protection man :rotfl: No but im serious, bet if SF was eliminated from SH3 there did be no install or loading problems. I got those problems you mention many times in previous installs. You can use a sh3.exe fix, ubisoft added one in the SH4 1.4 patch they should of add one when they put out the SH3 1.3 patch. Or they should just put one out would only take them a few minutes to create one.

Anyways when i got stuff ups and use the fix 10 out of 10 times SH3 would load properly.

* Uninstall SH3 making sure the SH3 folder in my documents is also gone.
* Uninstall SH3 Commander if you using it and delete any folders it might of left behind.
* Reinstall SH3, then straight away without restarting the PC (after it does that check just go cancel) update game to 1.3 then apply the sh3.exe fix. start up SH3 once then go out and install GWX2. Then SH3 Commander.

You should be all go...hopefully.

Default Thanks guys!

Thanks very much for the info.

This was a clean install of SH3 + 1.4b patch, then the download and install of GWX2. I was aware that previous campaigns (careers) from GWX1 would not work so all that stuff was deleted.

Like I said, I got so far into the career campaign (about the start of 1942) then the game wouldn't restart. I deleted the career file that I had been using and guess what, the game wanted to play again!! So, it was back to scratch for me. This has got to be a software glitch that is giving me grief.... Doing my head in!!!

Real pity too, at the rate that I was knocking ships off I would have been given the rank of Admiral of the Fleet!!!

Cheers guys, Merry Xmas!

I'm only on my third war patrol with 2.0, so if there is some sort of glitch, it may not make itself manifest this early in my campaign. I have, however, experienced multiplayer CTDs with 2.0 that I did not have with 1.03. Until I am able to analyze point-by-point settings with the guy that hosts, I can't be sure it isn't a compatibility issue caused by different options he and I are running. So far, I haven't had any offline issues with 2.0, but midway through the third war patrol is not what you'd call "exhaustive testing". I'm sure the GWX team wrung it out as best they could, but as we've all seen with software, there's nothing like hundreds or even thousands of "beta...er, charlie testers" to find a problem. There are so many variables that could cause problems with a game that it's mind boggling. I wish you luck in finding the fix.

When I get a CTD I return to the previous save until I find one that doesnot crash. So I do not delete my full career. Make sure that you never apply mod's - also not with JSGME - when you are at sea.
