Default Modding Newb who is very confused....

I have been a player of SH3 for some time now, and have just attempted to mod my game for the first time, but I really don't know what I am doing. I have never modded a game before, and have tried to do everything for GWX as per all the instructions that I can find on this forum. I have downloaded all of the GWX files onto my desktop, and cannot figure out how to get them imported into the game. Where do I put the files after they are on my computer? I also have also downloaded the jgsme but I understand that this will not allow me to play this mod. If anyone can help a guy who would rather be sinking ships that sitting for 7 hours trying to mod his game I would really appreciate it.

Cheers

Create a folder on your desktop
Put the GWX exe and 5 bins in that folder
And run the exe

Then run the GWX 1.03 exe to patch the game to GWX 1.03

I take it you are patched to SH3 1.4 already ?

GWX will install JSGME anyway as it includes some more mods you can use

When I try to run the EXE in the new folder that I created with all of the GWX files in it, (Bins 1-5) the patch and exe. I get the following message when I try to install using the EXE "The file Silent Hunter IIIgwx-bin cannot be located" in the GWX folder that I created to on the desktop "Please insert the correct disk or open the correct folder"....
I know that I am probably doing something basic but wrong, and I am not good at this stuff. I did not rename any of the GWX files when I downloaded them

If thats the exact message

The file Silent Hunter IIIgwx-bin cannot be located

Make sure the bin files ARE named correct
Some file storage sites rename the - to a _

The correct name should be

GWX-1
And so on

Windows XP, and they are named GWX-1, GWX-2 etc etc. Like I think I said, I have the Silent HunterIII GWX setup exe. and the 1.03 patch in the same file on my desktop is one of these files in the wrong place?

PS thanks for the assistance

For now, try not to worry about the GWX 1.03 update file. I'm worried that it is confusing you.

For the base installation of GWX 1.0, you should have six files in your desktop folder.... The GWX 1.0 .exe file, and five bin files.

Lets handle the 1.03 update file as a separate matter. Once GWX 1.0 is sorted for you, 1.03 is a simpler affair.

Sorry to interrupt you BBW... just wanted to ask about Vista since it redirects some things IIRC.

Alternatively, Halifax... if you still have troubles later, you can DL a single-big-file version of GWX 1.0 here: http://isaf.us/gwx/ just grab the link that shows a size of 791mb.

Do keep the 1.03 update file at any rate. You will need it.

Hang in there, we'll get you sorted.

...back to my dungeon now...

No
The 1.02 patch is included in the 1.03 one anyway

First you need to get GWX 1.0 installed
