Just for fun I tried to extend the submerged range of my boat.
Using Minitweaker I edited the "Electric Propulsion" section of the xxx_sim.txt file of one of the submarine types and changed the value for "milesSubmerged" and for "knotsSubmerged" and tried out the new settings. Unfortunately only the "knotsSubmerged" seem to have been changed ingame despite the settings of the .sim file. Just running faster drains my batteries a lot faster, but running at low speeds didn't extend the range at all. Any ideas? Regards Shadowhunter

Why don't you check out the 'realistic batteries' mod and see what changes they made?

Seems to be broken after v1.3 patch... the trick works fine on v1.2, but in v1.3 game makes non sense of changes.

One of my biggest complaints with SH4 is the unrealistic battery life. The only good thing to come from that problem for me was that I learned how to use the mini tweaker program for other things.
Silent Hunter I SHCE published by Strategic Simulations, Inc. had a real WW II Captain as a consultant; William P. "Bud" Gruner, CO USS Skate. I made a test using a SHCE Tambor class boat with the following results: SHCE Tambor class: 2/3 speed 4.4 kts to approx 50% battery used was 8:50 hrs and 37 nm 2/3 speed 4.4 kts to approx 99% battery used was 18 hrs and 76 nm I made more tests at 1/3 speed which is approx 2.2 kts and ran out of oxygen. These results are close to the research data from the Fleet Submarine Manual posted by CCIP... at least a lot closer than SH4 values. Here is a Gato class from SH4: Stock SH4 v.1.3 in Mini-Tweaker reads 96 at 2 kts Test: 4+ kts to 50% battery 4:45 hrs and 20.5 nm ... 15 +/- rpm. 1/3 speed 4- kts to 50% battery 5:40 hrs and 20.2 nm... 12 +/- rpm. At 2.+ kts to 50% battery 14 hrs and 31.5 nm ... 7.5 +/- rpm. 2 hr recharge time from 50% to 100% Changing the 96 or the 2 changes the recharge time to at least double depending on the numbers plugged in and doesn't give anything close to realistic range. So, I unchecked realistic battery life in SH4 but patrol as if I had realistic battery's. Hope the upcoming 1.4 patch fixes the battery life. Art |
