Just a quick question for the experts here. I'm working on a new custom mission (a war patrol actually) and want to use a specific submarine for the mission. How can I accomplish this? The submarine in question is the USS Salmon (SS-182).

Open the .mis file with notepad or something.
You'll see your sub in there someplace: [Unit 1] Name=USS Sandlance Class=SSGato Type=200 Origin=American Side=1 Commander=1 CargoExt=-1 CargoInt=-1 CfgDate=19440101 DeleteOnLastWaypoint=false DockedShip=false GameEntryDate=19411231 GameEntryTime=0 GameExitDate=19451231 GameExitTime=0 EvolveFromEntryDate=false Long=16726248.000000 Lat=3886134.000000 Height=0.000000 Heading=50.116501 Speed=5.000000 CrewRating=3 DelayMin=0 ReportPosMin=-1 ReportPosProbability=100 RandStartRadius=0.000000 NextWP=0 Name= put the name you want there, if that line is missing, add it. Note: if you want the sub to not be early war, make sure you set the cfg date! Cheers, tater |

LOL, I wonder what I did wrong. Here's what my unit 1 one looks like, tater.
[Unit 1] Name= _US BB Maryland PH Class=BBColorado Type=11 Origin=American Side=0 Commander=0 CargoExt=-1 CargoInt=-1 CfgDate=19410901 DeleteOnLastWaypoint=false DockedShip=true GameEntryDate=19411101 GameEntryTime=0 GameExitDate=19411212 GameExitTime=0 EvolveFromEntryDate=false Long=-18954414.000000 Lat=2563855.000000 Height=0.000000 Heading=220.468994 Speed=0.000000 CrewRating=3 DelayMin=0 ReportPosMin=-1 ReportPosProbability=100 RandStartRadius=0.000000 NextWP=0 I'd swear I didn't put one US BB in this mission. BTW, thanks for taking the time to help me out, tater. ![]()

Your sub might not be unit 1. The units are serial, the 1st one you place is 1, then 2, and so forth. Your sub might be Unit 15.
Name the one you want. It'll be the one that is a US sub class ![]() tater |

[Unit 27]

What am I missing?

What does the sub name say under properties for the sub in the editor?
Also, is this in the briefing, os the actual sub name? The briefing text is under language localization in the editor (or open the tsr text file). tater |

Oh, a war patrol.
Hmmm. I missed that part reading it. Should be the same though. Open the WP03 mission, lifeguard. That sets the boat to Albacore. All the others are generic. Does that one work? As it is, it looks fine to me, just the same as the WP03 in terms of sub name. tater |

OK, that Albacore mission doesn't pick the sub right, either.
Looks like the WP mode pulls ships like the career does. |

Looking at Campaign.cfg, the only difference between a single mission and a single patrol is that the scripted battles (midway, etc) don't get loaded in single missions, but they do in single patrols. That and the rtb maybe.

So it's not possible to change the name of the submarine than, tater? If I get your drift right.

Dunno, bu the devs made that one war patrol with a specific sub name---and it doesn't work.
So I bet it is not possible. What I suggested is what they did, and what you do in a single mission (where it works). tater |
