Default SH4 Expansion wishlist

I'd really like to see Ubi make an expansion pack for this game, allowing you to play as the Japanese. I would think the only thing they'd really need to add is the Japanese submarine models, because all the harbors and ships for both sides are already there. In addition, there are plenty of Allied aircraft/warships.

Some people might argue against this, saying the IJN's submarine fleet had a lackluster record in WWII. However, their actual boats are pretty neat, and they would definitely allow for some fun missions. They operated submarines carrying Midget subs and kaiten (human-piloted torpedoes! ) hangars that could deploy scout planes and even floatplane bombers, and had some experimental boats that had faster underwater speeds than the German type XXI. They had a few boats with eight(!) bow torpedo tubes, and were armed with submarine versions of the Long Lance torpedo.

They carried many disadvantages, too- many of their bigger subs were slow to dive, lacked the same radar technology of the Americans, and couldn't dive as deeply as U-boats could. I think a Japanese campaign would offer up a MUCH greater challenge- even more challenging than SH3 in 1945. However, all the cool gadgetry their subs did get was pretty impressive in its own right (I'd love to be able to use a scoutplane to spot a ship to sink hundreds of miles away), and their primary role (forward element of a fleet) while historically unsucessful, makes for an exciting game when you are out trying to sink enemy capital ships, not just helpless merchants.

I for one would model the interior of destroyers, be them Japanese or American, and make a new, proper Destroyer Command. The interface is already there to model the lead escort of a convoy and send orders to the rest, which would be a rather amazing addition.

Still, I wouldn't mind Japanese subs at all. Anything remotely related to submarines is good in my book.

Somebody's gonna have to pay a lot of money to hire the Japanese voice actors. Any volunteers?

I don't know about that- they an just get translations of the various commands or something and have a voice actor read them (maybe the same guy! That would be a hoot!). If someone modded the IJNs sub fleet there are a few voice clips of a Japanese sub commander in Tora Tora Tora.

I'd like to see them fix the issues with the sim as it is before anything like this is contemplated. Given the issues that remain I think it's highly unlikely they're about to do anything further with it and, if they did, I wouldn't buy it until they fix the things I think are significantly problematic with the initial sim.

Id like to see our american subs fully depicted. meaning not just two interior compartments but everything fore and aft, engine rooms torpedo rooms etc. And ya it be nice if the devs would get the sound implementation done completely.
Mission ideas, hey instead of just dropping off commandos how about picking them up from a hot port, meaning u litterly have to be thier support by fire while they exfil to your boat. Just some ideas, also, the real dynamic shadows need to come back, ie sh3 before the patches, that was sweet

AI tweaks to make the surface vessels engage somewhat realistically (fire at range, launch torpedoes, etc)

More upgrades/customization to boat (make renown mean something!)

Make ships more cognizant of torpedo wakes (US electric torpedo is pointless)
