Default A bunch of questions-

I've now gathered a bunch of my questions for you guys

1.) Could one of you give me a guide, or simply tell me, how to use the angel on bow.. I can never get it right, and it is somewhat - quite important.

2.) The identification of a ship, how is that easily done? I always have to go VERY close, looking at the chimneys, guns, and how its riggs are set. But its impossible to stay at a distance.

3.) I now got the "walk around" mod, where it allows you to move around ontop of the sub, though all i do, is become a ghost - meaning i can fly through objects - is this the point ?

4.) I now got the RFB, but i don't find many changes - mainly a couple of added buttoms, where is the real difference?

5.) What stand alone mods would YOU suggest, and dont give me the list made by someone else, please, suggest some for me Could be anything from graphic to sound - gameplay improvement.

6.) The two only huge mods i could find is RFB and Trigger Maru, but is there no HUGE mod like the grey wolves were in SH3 ?

7.) Do you keep getting enjoyed by this game? There are less things to do than in SH3, where you also had to manage crew, and just wondering - what do you do to keep getting entertained?

Give it time, this will happen. Actually if you add in some of the larger mods, Captain Coxs' Silent Service Intro Mod and his CBS Radio Mod you have close to a gig d\l, both of those are excellent.

TM and RFB are excellent, with TM being the most current.

Welcome to SUBSIM by the way.

Default TDC/PM

Personally, I'm fascinated by the Torpedo Data Computer/Position Keeper and trying to pervert both of them to perform all manner of mayhem to the enemy. You, as a SH3 manual targeting vet, have the advantage over me in finding ways to apply what you already know to the American Subs. Lately aaronblood, gutted and I have been adapting SH3 shooting techniques to SH4 with some pretty cool results so far.

Two ships tagged in under 30 seconds. Thank you gutted and aaronblood for teaching me that one! Isn't that cool how the two ships sink in unique ways depending on how they were tagged?

Also the American sub is faster, on the surface, under water and at silent speed than a U-Boat (a type VII anyway, haven't skippered a Type IX enough to remember the speeds on it). The Pacific has a greater variety of hunting grounds. Why in hades are all the really great hunting places so damn shallow? No the destroyers aren't as good (a historical fact, not a defect) but any destroyer in 200' of water is a white knuckler.

The huge size of the Pacific is a whole new element to someone who thought that Atlantic bathtub was big. Managing fuel can be a nasty thing in SH4.

Check out WernerSobe's videos (sticky in this forum) and learn how to target ships with sonar only! Theres nothing like nailing a bad guy with three torpedoes out of three shots when you've never seen the target. It's better than sex. (OK, that's an exaggeration, but you get the idea). Other people mod the game. WernerSobe mods your brain.

Load up leovampire's Living Breathing Ocean and see if you don't spend way too much time on the bridge just watching the ocean. Or WernerSobe's Natural Sinking Mechanics and see the unique way each ship sinks. They don't just blow up and sink in seconds any more! If they sink, you made it happen.

If you get bored and you're playing Ducimus' Trigger Maru, other than just wandering around the sub marveling at OakGrooves incredible submarine interior, you can travel to see my buddy, Bungo Pete. No Limey destroyer can compare to Pete. Once he sinks his claws into you, I promise you won't be bored. You will most likely die, but boredom will not be a factor.

I have foofighter's Redfin skin on my Balao. I don't know why it's labeled a Gato skin because it doesn't work there, but is it ever cool on my Balao! He just came out with a new hi-res skin to make me feel bad, but I'm sticking with my Redfin.

Other that all that, this is a boring game that nobody could ever enjoy. It sucks and the submarine doesn't even have an oven to bake victory cakes in. And nobody ever remembers any other crewmember's birthday. (obscure reference to another thread)

Default It's Miller time!

It's been a hard day out there on the water. You've been battered by depth charges, dealt with defective torpedoes, hard-ass captains and yes, even a submarine without a head or galley (had the periscope animation not been fixed the experience would not have been bearable). The torpedoes are gone, one enemy freighter swims with the fishies and one is a smoking hulk. It's Miller time!
