Aiming Torps
One of the things in I have to honestly say I miss from SH3 is that there seemed far more direct control over torpedo angle/gyro settings. Pardon me if I don't use the right technical terms - let's say 'all that dial gubbins on the attack map'.
![]() I found that I had a far easier time of it tuning the torp settings from those dials, and I could see the predicted track as I tuned it - which might not have been realistic, but frankly I just attributed it to having a crew around me rather than the captain having to do everything hisself. Yers, I know: I've got a crew in SH4 - they're the ones who do speed estimates and so on - but I'm still wondering whether there's a mod or setting (or even just something blindingly obvious that I've missed) that will enable me on SH4 to access the same torp setting controls from the attack map? I'd like to be able to twiddle everything from one place without necessarily having to expose myself (ahem) by using the scope every two minutes for a zigging target. :hmm: Disclaimer: Yes, I'm aware I'm rubbish, thank you. ![]()

Well you don't have to keep your scop up, if you turn on the position keeper it will keep track while you refine your settings. AFAIK all you have to do is take several readings (popthe scope up...take range and bearing) and then you'll get a speed estimate. Watch the attack map...you'll see a little white cross which represents your estimated target...if it corresponds to the target then you are pretty close.

Yeah it'd be nice to see the PK dials available on the attack map... hoping a future mod will address it.

When I've got my solution set up but am not ready to fire, I observe the torpedo solution on the attack map and compare the PK target bearing with the sonar bearing. If the target zigs it becomes clear pretty quickly. |
