Isn't this old new? I remember the guy identifying himself years ago; essentially as soon as his wife died (He didn't want to get in trouble with her over it or some such)

Their was never a positive id. Too many people were claiming to be him. It's not in Life's interest to have a positive id. It's got to be one of the most known photos in the U.S..

On the 50th anniversary of the picture, the Today show had both the sailor and nurse on the show and tried for like 5 minutes to get them to recreate the kiss. They both looked at the hosts like they were nuts and refused.
