Welcome aboard!
Perhaps not all of your torpedoes actually struck the ship. Sometimes they will "premature" or detonate before they hit the target. This happened historically, and happens in the game too. On the other hand, others have had similar experiences: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...nsinkable+ship

could have they been duds? I've had a few duds hit a ship and leave a small hole like as if i hit it with a deck gun. Try changing the depth settings on the torpedos too. Try to aim for under the stacks. some times hitting them in the cargo holds is just a waist of a good torpedo.

While 8 torps certainly should have sunk her, 3 in the stern isn't the best way to sink a target.
Always try to hit the from the side when possible, if you do go for a stern shot, make sure you watch if you knock his props out. If he stops dead in the water maneuver yourself so you can make the kill.

You can get good results using 2 torps. 1 just behind the last smoke stack, if only 1 smoke stack then just behind it ( right on the back of the stack ). 2nd right in the lowest part of the ship or under the bridge. If the 2 torps don't sink'm surface an finish the job.........

how do you aim the torpedo? I know this was done in SH3 because you could aim the periscope...but the peri is not connected to the TDC in SH4...do you use the spread angle to "aim" the torpedo?

The most natural way of aiming the torpedo at a given point along the target is to aim the periscope at whatever point you want to hit as you are updating the range to target (upper right circular thingy). Updating the range using the stadimeter tool assumes that the target is XXXX yards ahead wherever the periscope is pointed.
So all you have to do is unlock the periscope and point it at the part of the ship you want to blow up when you update the range one of the times. |

thanks everyone for response. my case is actually pretty weird coz all of 8 torpedoes hit th target no duds no nuthin not even a visible damage and he escaped at full speed. it felt like i was firing fire crackers. btw i'm not using manual aiming this thingy is too complicated for me

To aim at a specific point is easier if you are using easy settings. Just point the periscope where you want to hit, and check if the triangle is green or close to it, then fire.
When using manual settings, I'd recommend locking the periscope to the centre for best accuracy when creating the solution, and using the subdivisions on the periscope together with the spread angle to adjust the torpedo course. |
