Default Question-what does the sim file do?

I have U-Boat for GWX 1.03 by JCwolf and am trying to reduce the positive bouyancy effect. I have the GWX-Reduced pos bouyancy mod which replaces the .sim files in the Submarine folder, and I also have the optional mod that came with U-Boat for GWX, to eliminate it and make it neutral..I dont want that...I want the reduced one, so since U-boat affects the .sim files, what could possibly be changed? What does the .sim file control? When I know this I can decide if its worth it to overwrite the u-boat sim files. Thanks.
