Well,
after a BIG while decided to mod my game. What i did is : 1. Vanilla install + Patch 1.4b 2. Installed GWX 3. Patched GWx 1.03 4. Installed SH Commander 2.7 Now i have 3 shortcut icons on my desktop : a. old SH3 icon b. SH3 / GWX c. SH Commander Wich one do I use ? If i start a carrer via Sh3 commander, do I have to start with SH3 commander until my carrer ends ?? How do this 2 patches interact with each other , and also with Sh3 ?? Thx !!! ![]() |

Hi There
Well you can use either SH3 Commander shortcut or SH3 GWX one. If you start with the commander you will be able to tweak your game options a bit +plus you will be getting some cool "news" while your game loads. Depending on the ammount of mods you have (especially if you have the skin pack) loading with Commander might take a bit longer. You can also use the SH3 GWX shortcut to start the game and it will work just fine. I use GWX most of the time because I have notice that everytime I start with the commander it overwrites the changes I made to basic.cfg file (anyone care to discuss?) but if you havent made any changes by hand then I'd say you are all right with any of them. As far as the "old" shortcut for vanilla version I am not sure if it will even work. Hope this helps a bit |

Using the original SH3 shortcut or the new GWX one is the same thing, because GWX has overwritten the original SH3 install, so you cannot run original SH3 anymore (unless you purposely made a clean copy before installing GWX). Not that this is bad, on the contrary, you will never go back to the original if you try GWX !!
Starting via SH3 commander allows you to change some options, and also randomizes some important gameplay values (e.g. so-called thermal layers, time the escort will chase you, etc.). So it's good starting via SH3 commander each time, or at least after each patrol, because you will have different randomized values. But if you start via the GWX icon it will work anyway. Did you install the GWX configuration files for SH3 Commander too? They are needed. The skin pack is not strictly needed, instead, but it's good having. Maraz |

Yes, i think i did that by unzipping
GWXCfg4SH3Cmdr.zip (a few .cfg files) inside the Commander Folder . Is that it ?? ![]() Heheheh, Watch out Brits - HERE I COME !!!! ![]() |

Make sure you unzip into the commander\cfg folder, not just unzipping into the main folder.
You should be prompted to overwrite existing files, if that happens then you did things correctly ![]() RDP |

Install of Multiple Versions
1)Complete a fresh install of SH3 + 1.4b as normal. 2)Create a copy of the program folder & rename as required. 3)Install your mod of choice to the renamed version. 4)Create and rename shortcuts as required. 5)Use MultiSH3 to create separate save locations for each install. SH3 Commander & Multiple Installs It is recommended to have a separate install of Commander for each different install of SH3. 1)Install SH3Commander and rename the program folder to suit. 2)Rename each SH3Cmdr shortcut as required. 3)You will need to use the l: switch to point SH3Cmdr to the right installation. Here's an example of the l: switch for dual installs, just tailor it to fit..... Right click on the SH3Cmdr shortcut & choose properties. Target "C:\Program Files\SH3 Commander-GWX\SH3Cmdr.exe" /l:"C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent HunterIII-GWX" Start in "C:\Program Files\SH3 Commander-GWX" |

GWXCfg4SH3Cmdr works only with GWX 1.0 and 1.01 - the files will crash GWX 1.02 and 1.03. |

Is it true that any changes you make to the basic cFg yourself are overwritten when you use SH3cmdr

But let me be clear here. There is a long-held and totally incorrect belief by many that SH3Cmdr replaces whole config files with its own files. This is TOTALLY AND ABSOLUTELY WRONG. Whilst SH3Cmdr will always backup whole files before applying any changes, it simply adjusts the individual settings within the file in question, meaning that your other unique changes will not be touched. Now if you think that SH3Cmdr is replacing your whole Basic.cfg, then, well you forgot to rollback SH3Cmdr *before* making your changes to Basic.cfg. You can't blame SH3Cmdr for that mistake. ![]() My recommendation is that you LEAVE BASIC.CFG alone and apply your changes to SH3Cmdr's "Static settings.cfg" file. That way SH3Cmdr will always apply your settings and will always clean them up after it's finished running, ready for you to enable or disable mods without needing to backup your changes first. |

I cant see why anyone would want to go back to vanilla after playing GWX? Its like choosing Diet Coke over Pepsi .
