Today I was reading a post the sparked my interest in this mod. It certainly adds another dimension, especially in intercepting contacts. I do have a couple of questions though
1) I assume that one typically takes 2 fixes per day, sunrise and sunset. The lat is fixed by the sextant and the long by the clock. Everything else is by dead reckoning 2) The sextant looks to have 1 degree marks. I assume an expected accuracy is around 1/2 a degree. This means a potential error of 30 nm? Are people getting better accuracy than this? Is this accuracy typical for the time period? 3) Do most users typically spend their time in the wide expanses of the atlantic or do some of you decide to take on the med. I imagine if we had actual charts and actual land marks in the environment the med would be easier but without these the chance for collision is certainly increased Any insight is appreciated. Thanks, BT |
