Empty Gas tanks

SH4 has officially pissed me off once again. After watching Legion's noob guide and installing the new patch, I find that my fuel capacity is STILL completely insufficient. I go to the target area at Ahead Standard and barely have enough time to patrol for 50 miles before I have to turn back or be stranded in the ocean. WHY THE HELL IS MY FUEL MILEAGE SO BAD? Don't give me that realism bull, I'm only going from the Marshall Islands from Pearl Harbor, my fuel situation shouldn't be this bad. This is rediculous.
