Default Same career mission every time!

I been playing SH IV in the "Career" mode. I've played about eight missions, however, every mission I get is the same: a Photo Re-con of Tokyo bay. I've managed to do it successfully everytime but there's got to be something wrong to keep getting the exact same mission everytime I return to Pearl Harbor. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes I have the same problem. I started out with a photo recon mission like yourself, which was actually quite eventfull as it happened.....sunk 1 destoyer and 4 merchants, got a medal and was happy as larry. The second mission was an agent insertion mission.....talk about boring...i ran on the surface all the way there and all the way back and didn't see one plane or merchant the whole time. Pretty ridiculous if you ask me...I strolled right up to the coast of Japan during wartime and didn't see so much as a fishing boat.
Anyway after that I got 2 more agent insertion missions which were also pretty uneventfull. It was at this point I realised that the campaign must be seriously broken, so I decided not bother again till they fixed it. I haven't tried the campaign again since going to 1.2, but I assume its still broken as there is nothing in the readme file about it. I've also seen numerous people on here complainng about the very same thing so we're definately not alone. Sometimes i wonder whether UBI beta test their games at all!!!

I am starting to think that the betatesters are the ones that bought the game.

I believe the issue is from setting realism, if you have unlimited fuel for example, there are times when missions repeat.

I run with fairly high realism but I still get repeat missions. Of course, in real life a boat could get a repeat mission, some boats were "cloak and dagger" specialists, like HMS/M Seraph, but most boats probably never did a single special mission in their entire time in commission. I think SH4 gives out too many special missions.

I believe you can also stop at Wake and just refit. I believe this will generate a new mission. Also, you do not need to keep going to the mission. I have blown off a mission for convoy action if I come upon them. When I see fat juicy targets, all of a sudden, using my Kodak to take pictures of ships seems secondary to me and my crew. Also, I ran into the repeat mission, I said screw it and went off to find my own thing to do. Eventually, on the same patrol I had blown off the repeat, the finally gave up on the first mission and I was handed another mission.

I look at this way, I'm the Skipper and I take my sub/men were I want. Come back to port with 5-6 sinkings and you are still a hero. If they want me to go back to the same harbor, they can do it themselves....it's a dangerous mission anyway

Don't feel bad I am playing career and had to drop off the spy 3 times at the same place and 3 times I had to get Photos at the same place, now I have finished 3 things on this mission sunk 29 ships and have been a sea 2 months and it will not let me End Patrol even though I did everything it required. Now what?

I seem to always get the "patrol east china sea" mission. So many times that I applied for a transfer to Freemantle as it's a bit closer than Pearl.

I still seem to spend hours at max time compression traveling between home base and mission objective though = very tiresome.

First patrol: deploy at Honshu, once there to engage and sink merchant shipping. 5 ships, +27000 tons, blah-blah.

Second patrol, photo recon of Kasu... something harbor. So I take pics, then sink those big juicy sitting ducks (merchants only), return to Pearl, medals, party.

Patrols 3 and 4, same as the second... with the notable difference that on patrol 4 there was a midget sub docked in the harbor.

On all patrols, I've been sending progress reports (it helps me keep track of my total tonnage sunk) and also reporting convoy sightings of my own - couldn't engage though (out of torps). This hasn't helped in triggering a new type of mission - or even the same type mission but in a different enemy harbor. On the fourth mission, I thought that maybe I wasn't supposed to sink what I'd just photographed, so i went North a bit to Hiroshima where lo and behold I had an awe inspiring sighting of the Yamato, which I sankwith 3 shots. So, just photos in the designated harbor and engaging elsewhere hasn't helped either, because guess what my mission orders are for patrol 5... So this would be my 4th repetition of the same mission.

So, has ANYONE managed to get past this repetition issue and actually experience a "dynamic campaign"? Or was it just some marketing hype?

PS - I guess SH3 had a more dynamic career, because I only had the same misiion given to me 3 times in a career.

I too have been assigned the same mission over and over, and I do not have unlimited anything and I report back frequently.

Do what I did, I got the repeater and said not this time. I went to the South China Sea were there a lot of vessels to sink. When I did this my mission moved on after I spotted a convoy and reported. You only loose a few hundred renown anyway if you do not go. Your the Skipper, do your own thing and forget about the repeats. One repeat, OK, two repeat and forget it. You'll find me were the shipping is

After nine straight photo re-con missions of Toyko Bay, I finally got a insertion mission. Oh, I did get a new sub after about the sixth photo re-con mission.
